Well I tried to post these a couple of days ago without much luck, but thanks to Klingon Fanatic and Sandman that's all changed.
These screenshots are of my first ever model, and although by no means perfect, I'm fairly happy with how things are turning out.
She's a Romulan vessel (currently dubbed Hammerwing) and is supposed to be a small, swift vessel capable of delivering a high yield blow against a target and delivering a lighter follow-through as she banks to retreat and cloak again. Her port side is 'supposed' to be protected by an 'ablative wing' armature... and this is where I've gotten myself stuck... The port panel is meant to sweep back across the upper hull and partially protect the underside, but I don't know how to make the changes just yet, so any suggestions/criticisms/advice would be welcome.
There are a few other things I want to sort out too - eg. I think the ventral warp nacelles should be larger, and the impulse vents should be trimmed down a little.

Neat concepts! I think the asymmetry is very nice for a non-Earth based ship; Lord knows WE like symmetry in general.
I hope you iron the kinks out of this, your first model; it's beginning to look all right even at this early stage. Intriguing!

Thanks for the words of support guys...
I've been playing around with the model over the weekend, and have discovered that there are a few undesirable artifacts which are making some of my modifications more difficult that they probably ought to be... There are problems with the weapons tower, which has some strange distortions on the topmost dome and forward face - and I'm still having a tough time adjusting the wing 'cowl' into the right shape - let's just say there have been more than a few "Aaargh" moments over the past couple of days...
I have begun building a replacement model variant and will try to build the 'cowl' separately and then attach it later to see if it helps me any better... I've dicovered to my cost that selecting and adjusting poly's sometimes results in hidden or unrelated poly's being adjusted too, creating unwanted side effects. Naturally as a complete novice, I've not built up the skills to repair this type of damage easily, but I think I'm learning from my mistakes - yeay!
Can I ask - is there a good, step-by-step by step guide to texturing models - I've been trying to follow the tutorials Max provided, but they refer to buttons that don't seem to match anything on my screen (I may just be blind though)... I'm using version 5 in case that makes a difference...

Well, to texture the ship 1st you need a paint program like PSP7 or PS7. Then once you have the textures you use the uvmap and unwrap uvw modifiers to apply them. There's a good tutorial, a couple of them actually, that show how to apply them...I can send them to you tonight. As for making the textures, there really isn't one. I can send the tuts around 6pm my time (pacific).

Cheers Sandman, I've got Adobe Photoshop 5 at the moment, but I should be able to get that upgraded if you think it would serve me better. The tutorials are most welcome, you can send them to me at mooods@ntlworld.com - there's no hurry, so just when you get the chance.
