Hm. switching the colours to 16bit didnt help, its as tacky as ever.
...but you were right about least one thing; its the drivers. most likely since software mode works well (uh well as it can work but not quite)

That's a definite confirmation right there.

Heh...here we go again with the "ditch the ATI and get an nVidia....."
My system (which runs EVERYTHING, including all SFC titles just fine):
Athlon XP 2700+ (Thermalright SLK-800/Vantec Tornado HSF, 12x195)
Asus A7N8X-Deluxe (1002A1 SATA "Uber" BIOS)
1024 MB (2x512 MB) Corsair XMS PC3200C2
Sapphire Radeon Atlantis 9700 Pro (Cat. 3.4, slightly overclocked)
ViewSonic VX900 19" LCD
80GB Maxtor (7200 RPM/ATA133)
Logitech MX-700 wireless mouse
Windows XP Pro
It should be noted that the SFC titles also ran just fine on my older Athlon T-bird 1.3 ghz system with an ATI Radeon 8500 and the very first Cat drivers. They have, in fact, worked with every ATI driver I have ever used. I'll even swtich to Cat 3.6 tonight and log right into the OP dyna and play just fine.
I'm not sure exactly what's Makie's particular problem is, but it ISN'T his video card or his drivers as long as both are in good working order and installed properly.
Let's not act like nVidia cards don't have their share of problems. Mackie has one of the absolute best cards available on the market right now, even better that some of these nVidia's out now that are a generation newer. Unless there is soemthign wrong with his installation or the video card hardware itself, it isn't his card.
Just my two cents...

It would not surprise me at all if your integrated sound is causing the problem. I have heard of some problems with that in the past, though I am using the integrated sound on my motherboard without any issues whatsoever. Granted..we have different motherboards and processor brands.
I assume you have either uninstalled and reinstalled Cat 3.6 and/or have tried reverting back to an earlier version, just in case it's the driver installation itself? (which, guess what..happens with nVidia drivers, too...)

Only by editing the sfc.ini file, I think.

Just for my info could you say what sort of cordless mouse it is.
I have a Logitech MX700 and I don't think I am having any problems with the default settings.
