i recently reset my comp and since installing SFC3 again it wont recognize that i have 8.1 installed so i cant play.
does anyone know why it's not working? any help is much appreciated.

Activision released a DirectX 9.0 Fix, but 9.0 isn't out yet far as I know. Off the top o' my head, you can do a few things:
1) Reinstall dx 8.1 and see if that works.
2) Reinstall sfc3, again.
3) Forget about sfc3 not recognizing you have dx 8.1 and play the game anyways (does it even run btw? and if it does, how does the game perform?)
4) Or download the 9.0 Fix and see if that could actually affect your copy of sfc3 to recoginze you having 8.1.
I know this doesn't sound professional, but it's the best I can offer short of your asking for help from Activison or even Microsoft. Good luck with the problem.

thanks but i've tried all of the above. it just says runtime error and exits to desktop.

There is a DX9.0 out...if u upgrade to it (and the fix) that might help

By the way when you say u reset your computer did you format the drive or just reinstall?

It hasn't come out as an update yet when you go to the Windows Update site, but here's the link:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/directx/downloads/drx90.asp
FAQ is over on the left side of the page. You might want to read that before you install it.

got that installed, and it still just says runtime error!
C:\program\activision\SFC3\SFC3.exe
abnormal program termination
thats about when i get mad.

You do have to have DX9 BEFORE you install the patch or it won't work. You might need to uninstall the game then reinstall it, then the patch; DX9 is a major system change from 8.1.
