Title: SFC:OP: how is a race designated "PF" or "fighter" based?
Post by: FireSoul on September 29, 2003, 06:55:42 pm

How is a race designated "PF-only" or "fighter-only" in SFC:OP?
.. is it hardcoded in the game? I haven't been able to change the orientation of any races by editing the shiplist.

Before someone mentions a fighter/PF mod, don't. If this works, it would create the perfect fighter/PF mod... but I need to reshape the races first.

Hello FireSoul,
If you are trying to convert the TigerHearts to a ftr race, like we spoke of, that won't work either. If you use the Lyrans or the Neutral Orions to host the pirate tenders, then neither the tenders nor PFs will have engine doubling, unfortunately.
If you've come up with another idea, please share it.

I'm looking also for a "why" it won't work.

The game uses the capabilities of the host race. Since only the player controllable pirate races can have engine doubling accessed by the player, one of them has to be the host race. As best as I've been able to come up with, anyway.

I take it that you haven't come up with anything new on your own then?

I think that the PF/Fighter dichotomy is determined by Starfleet.exe. The trick that Rod O'Neal's mod uses exploits the retrieval process somewhat. There certainly isn't an sfc.ini setting to allocate PF/Ftrs to a specific race.

FS, maybe there is someway to do it. Taldren are the only ones who know for sure.

This may only be with fighter compatible races... but i have been able to have a F-CVA with a mix of fighters and PFs

If this helps at all - any race in the game can use fighters - Lyrans, Roms, Gorn. Just put them in the ftrlist.

Most likely you knew this already.

Cuts from my TNG ftrlist:

Romulan   R-SH
Romulan   R-F1
Romulan   R-F2
Romulan   R-F3
Romulan   R-F4
Romulan   R-F5
Gorn   B-F1
Gorn   B-F2
Lyran   JFNS1
Lyran   JFNS2

The fighters, as well as the pfs, show up when selecting your fighters.

Hmmmm...wonder what prevents PF's showing up for the "fighter" races then...I understand the 'doner' method....It seems like the answer is very simple...just slightly beyond the grasp....

Thanks Chris!

I need more PF races, not fighter races.
