Well, I gots SFC III, and installed it... and downloaded the DX9 Fix Patch from Activision so I could START the game. However, now when I try and load a training or campaign, or instant battle, textures appear as blocks of bright colors, like green and red and pink. And anything 3D is invisible. Anyone have any ideas? I'd greatly appreciate some help.
-
Do you have all the latest graphics card drivers? Also do you have a decent RAM to run this on?
If you know them, post your specs here so that more technical people can help ya out there.
-
LMAO... if I know my system specs. Hrmph. I BUILT this comp from scratch; details to follow.
Ahem.
Intel Pentium 4 w/ SSE2 2.7 ghz processor
nVidia G4 MX 440 (had Ti4600, but it burned out) Driver Version 5.1.75, DX9
512 meg of RAM
C-Media Dolby Digital DTS Surround Sound Card w/ Altec-Lansing Surround Speakers
Win XP Pro
Thats about it, save for my peripherals...
-
In that case, I don't have a freaking clue lol. Try updating to the beta patch incase its an issue that was fixed in the beta....
-
Which Pyro-GL is that?
-
Aha, a Descent 3 fan! Its actually a Pyro-XL. I modelled it in 3D Studio Max, originally planning to port it into D3. Never got around to it. She's a custom ship, cross between the Pyro-GL and the Black Pyro, and the Pyro-GX.
-
I would hazard a guess that you do not have the latest video drivers installed that support DX9.
Run a dxdailog and see what it says.
-
It tells me everything is working fine. Thats the second thing I tried.

I have the Black Pyro mesh somewhere in E:...hehe...
I never saw the Pyro-GX...
I came up with something I called a Pyrostar awhile ago...
Maybe I can find the drawings...

I have to say, it really sounds like a Vidcard problem. Do you have the Detonator Drivers, or the drivers that are from "MS" with thier favortism?
Off chance that it's this...what's your screen resolution set to? Is it 16 or 31 bit...probably isn't the cause, but just thought I'd check.
Other than that, it could be another driver not working well in conjunction with everything else?
Only time I had blocks was in SFC2 under XP first time I put it in...which was more of an executable problem...but I don't think it would be that with this.
-
Hmm... I have the 5.1.75 nVidia Detonator drivers. Works great for everything else. But SFCIII uses D3D and DX anyways, so it wouldn't matter. I've tried resolution at both 16 bit and 32.
-
Alright, here, I took a Screen of the errors... tell me if it looks familiar...

Holy Crack, no I have to say that one is a new one to me for SFC 3. Hmm, looking at it, the 2d is fine, looks like it's linked to the d3d drivers there, except I haven't had problems with the Nvidia drivers in that area.
The 2d areas look like they are running just fine. It's the actual 3d stuff that looks corrupted or something. Now that is odd. That red targetting thing with the square at the upper left corner looks out of place too, but unlike the 3d screens, I have no clue what could be causing that. Looks like you might be in a Nebula. I've heard of problems with things like this in 2d, but never in 3d. There were two causes for it in 2d, one was not enough card memory. The memory of the card was burned out, or just didn't have enough. Geforce 4, even an MMX should have enough. The other was with internet connections. Some connections drove the cards wild, depending on how the system routines went and then only with certain games.
You got me on this one. I haven't the faintest idea what the root of the problem might be.
-
Well thats the first tutorial mission. The Red targetting gizmo is Captain Picard "gesturing" to the Comm button. As for the D3D, is there any chance rolling back my drivers might help? Maybe I'm using too new ones...

Holy Cow, Video Man! I've never seen that one. I tihkn your installation may be corrupt--try a fresh install. Be sure to delete everything doing with SFC3 including the directory. Re-install and patch.
Hope that helps.
Best,
Jerry

What does your DxDiag say?
-
Hehe, nevermind. Downgraded to 4.5.23 drivers, works fine now. I read the small print on the 4.5.75 drivers and it said "May cause problems with some games. nVidia is not to be held responsible, as these drivers are beta versions." I nearly died laughing. Anyways, works fine now. Thanks for all your help guys, you guys are great. And thanks Taldren for this awesome game!
-
ill be sure not to upgrade my drivers. lol.:)

Nvidea drivers have gotten very shakey. Before the G4's came out their drivers even the beta drivers were rock solid. Now with every driver update you have to decide if the new problems will be worth the trouble.
