As my major projects are taking up a lot of my free time (and patience) I decided to take a break and work on a few simpler models. I got inspired by all the talk about the Andros recently and after talking with (or bugging) Anduril for a while, I decided to whip up a few Andromedans. I happen to like Taldren's TMP versions so I've based this beasty on their CA concepts:

-
Absolutely awesome!
I take it she's almost done.
Super cool!
KF
-
Yeah, she's almost finished though I have to make the textures and some minor alterations to the ship in regards to the design details mentioned in the GaW 101 thread.
-
Nice looking model.
What are those spires sticking out towards the front?
-
I had intended them to be TR beams but in retrospect, having that many would be overgunning it just a tad. I think I might axe them or just list them as sensor nodes as they also don't fall into the traditional design ethics you posted.
They could be disruptor cannons if the Andros managed to capture enough of 'em or duplicate the technology since this thing is from a later era.

Whoa that is really cool

Yeah, even on a Battleship 8 TRH's is excessive.
However, there is one Dominator variant that carries 8....it was incredibly scary but also extremely rare. But yeah, you could call em sensors or get rid of them, I think it still looks good either way. Oh, I forgot to mention that I really like the name you gave it. I'm surprised SFB hasn't used it yet!
One more quick question...how are you gonna texture it? I personally think the brown color used by taldren was pretty ugly, and I would love to see an all-green version of this ship! That's just my opinion.
-
I was planning on a green/gray paint scheme with few (if any) windows - I hate doing windows so these guys already get my vote.
I think I'll leave 'em on there just for intimidation's sake. I'm sure more than one Feddy captain will soil himself at the site of something with 8 cannon-like objects mounted on its hull.
-
I really like the geometry of this one. Should be a quality sister ship to the released Taldren Andro's. It will be interesting to see what color scheme you go with if you will try to keep it consistant with the Taldren textures.
Ya, those are dual array TR's... that's the ticket... so they can shoot four each turn... ya that's it! Hey Mr. Fed captain... come over here, I've got something to show you.
-
No offence to the guys at Taldren but their textures were fugly - and that's generous - brown? What were they thinking!? I'd stick with the SFB colours m'self but that's just MO.
Bloody nice mesh WZ though I dislike the guns/sensors, they look very star wars to me
LOL.
-
The Vampire doesn't like the cannons? Great - now I have another reason to leave 'em on there. I was going to keep them just for appearances but now I have spite as an added bonus.

Besides, I like Star Wars...
-
Hey whatch'ya got against vampires? Not like we ever did anything bad to zombies now is it?

In any case if u leave 'em on I'll just go into M6 an' chop 'em off
lol
-
Very nasty!
Sorry Fed captains will definately soil their armor.
-
For all the hype given to Andromedans in reference to their battle capacities (all due, naturally), I was kind of disappointed by their hull designs... no offense to any of our fine modders... still, they're just lil flying saucers...
Either way, you have done a marvelous job in making a possibly ordinary ship into a masterpiece...
-
Sorry. I probably should have mentioned that I liked the models themselves. My bad.
They're obviously a pro job. You'd never guess from looking at them how few overall polies are used. They are also stylishly done and the textrs aren't badly done, just not how I picture my Andros. Again, sorry for not being clear or complete on my critique.
-
Ooh! I love it! I'm especially pleased to see that your not sparing the faces on the curved sections. Clearly visible hexism (or whatever you modellers call non-curving curves) really detracts from the appearance, IMO.

The guns/antenae/sensors/cannons/... Would look great ingame HP'd as phasers. The Andros didn't actually use phasers. They were a beam weapon that resembled P2's, but weren't actually P2's. So, it's fine for them to look completely different than phasers. Just an idea.
Actually that's one of the reasons I'd ditch them, as the Andros always did their phasers in 180 degree arcs - FH, LS, RS, and occasionally RH so turrets wouldn't really work for that purpose. Oh I agree that the Taldren models weren't that bad actually considering how low-poly they were, they did a good job. I wasn't originally very partial to the shape of the back end with the four really tall engines as the Andros always looked very sleek and flat but it's grown on me a little. Kinda like those new BMWs, they look weird and stupid at first but I became so used to them that they don't look as bad.
-
Anymore gripes about the nodes and I'm welding them to the hull:

I think what you're referring to Parislord, is SBS - Saw Blade Syndrome. It's a very nasty condition that models can become afflicted with if proper care isn't taken to ensure correct curvature and appropriate polygon count. However, there is also an equally serious condition called EDD - Excessive Detail Disease. This is when a ship has way too many details and polygons for its own good, the early signs of this being game lag and an abundance of 'colorful metaphors' being uttered.
-
Now that's some nice textures right there. Massive improvement over taldren's s**t-brown. BTW, what's that odd grey thing in the middle with the blue sphere on it? The bridge I'm guessing yes?
Anywho, keep up the good work WZ
-
SWEET DUDE!!!
That's coming along really well! I love the texturing details so far, like the symbol on the front! Can't wait to see this monster finished!
-
That ship lives up to its name. Leave the nodes on. Just make sure that they can be blown off as battle damage or float around as debris when the ship is destroyed.
-
Or, if you have an obsolete vid card like mine, then at certain ranges, even good models grow sawtooth edges all over the place.
