How do you unload a loaded muzzleloader?
The more I consider the question, i suspect there is no way to do it that does not involve firing off the round. Is this correct?
-
i've never thought about other ways to unload one. The easiest way to unload it is just to shoot it off. The only other way might be to take it apart and push the charge out the barrel.
-
Through the muzzle. Just point it in a safe direction first.

Well if you're using a paper cartridge you should be able to just slide it right on out.
You shoot it. If you can't shoot it you have to pull the ball. The older way was to use a brass reverse cork screw to dig into the ball and then pull it. A safer approach is to use the CO2 powdered gadgets that blow the charge out from the flash hole.

SL-Punisher is correct for any lead type projectile which I assume you have. If you have a jacketed sabot projectile, I have never encountered that problem and don't know the answer. Do you have any more specific information such as to the type of projectile?
