Title: Must SFC3 model textures be in 256-colors?

I knew that it was required in SFC1 and SFC2. Is it still needed in SFC3?

In SFC1 and SFC2 the colors didn't show up correctly when using other then 256-colors, that's what I know...

I've been using TGA files as of late, the only drawback is the textures dont showin the mod viewer, but they work in everything else...

Actually, they dont have to be in 256 color mode. I make mine in 16 million color mode, and save them as .BMPs and they work just fine. and they look better. the only drawvack is the file size is larger, if that makes any difference to you. It doesnt make a difference to me how big the files are LOL

The illumination maps and damage textures might as well be 256 though.  Economy of file size should be a virtue.  I've got a 120 Gb HDD and a 2 Mbps Internet connection and I still like to see ships that are ~4 Mb, rather than >10.
Snobig deal either way though.
