Title: SFB question involving Casual PF Tenders
Post by: DH123 on February 13, 2004, 11:31:13 am
In SFB , all CC and BCH ships had Mech link for 2 PFs.

Were these casual Tenders able to repar the PFs in battle or were they simply hitching a ride?

I think the Mech Link Implies that ability, but don't hold me to that.

Most all were just hitching a ride.

The Lyran BC was I think the only casual tender that had repair boxes.

Ok I went and looked it up. If the ship already had Repair Systems in place then yes. If not, then no. The example they gave was the L-Wildcat BC. Since it has Repair as a standard part of it's design, it can repair them.

What Corbo said.

The Lyran BC and DN classes could repair thier PFs. These ships had repair facilities on board the ships.

The CC and below were strictly casual tenders, and no repair capability what so ever.

Would the same be true of the C7 for example?

Casual Tenders cannot repair their PFs, as others have pointed out. They do have reload facilities though.

The Lyran capitol ships ARE true tenders. If you use them either without PFs or before PFs are available you replace the repair boxes with cargo and delete the mech links. The repair boxes would be of no use without the PFs. They cannot be used to repair the systems on the main ship.

As a side note, because I know that you are also interested in Andros, The Andromedan motherships are an exception to the rule that doesn't allow self repair by accessing the repair boxes. It is, IIRC, twice as expensive to use the repair boxes for self repair though than to use the systems on the SatShips. Which is their true intent.

The easy way to remember this is that casual PF tenders provide a means to transport PF's to battle without having to accumulate hours on the PF engines. PF engines performance degrade over time because they do not have some of the automatic maintaince functions that starship warp engines have. At the tactical level, this is not normally a problem as the mission length where they are employed is not long enough for this to become a problem, and the PF tender has the equipment to do the maintance required to restore them to full operation. In general, most BCH's could carry casual PF's. The Overlord SSD for instance shows 2 mech links. Many other ship types could be modified as well.

Lyrans however are a different matter. Just as I've never seen a fighter that I didn't like, Lyrans never saw a PF they didn't want to mount on their ship. Many Lyran ships that are mounted with mech links in the casual style are actually NOT casual PF tenders - they're full PF tenders, with repair capabilities. Generally you have to look at the SSD to know the difference.
