Anybody out there have a set they bought and installed themselves? Want to get my wife's LGVX4400B set up but have seen everyhng from LG's professional install kit at $170 to "universal" kits at $24. All seem to be same configuration: a swivel mic pickup attached to cigarette lighter socket with a connecter to phones mic jack and earpiece from phone. Need some advice, the typical pros, cons, and horror stories.

I have a set I bought for my phone. What it is, is a single headphone but it sticks in your ear and plugs into the side of my phone. It has great noise canclation. I think it cost me $25 for it and its great for wearing when talking on it. I hate holding a phone up to my ear. With the hands free I can just put the phone in my pocket, leaving my hands free to be on the computer or drive or smoke while drinking.

Not being a cell phone user I can't help with the kits themselves however I will suggest that you get a high quality microphone. Something else to consider is that the hands free systems use the cars stereo system for the incoming conversion and that your cars stereo is probably setup for music which requires deeper bass while voice communication requires more treble for easy understanding.
