Whenever they are going to land on a planet or explore an asteroid or whatever, it hardly ever shows the prepping of the shuttle, the journey from wherever to the shuttle bay, and any sort of conversation about how the people going to the shuttle feel about the mission. Also, Mayweather the "pilot" has probably flown a shuttle about twice...hmmm odd huh? Anyway, thats my moan.....post yours!

Wouldn't that be a more accurate description of Mayweather? A specialist pilot? The one who handles the ship in conditions you can't trust the guy with just basic helm training?

That I can understand. Afterall who do you want at the helm in a life and death battle? #1 or the junior guy who just barely qualified? Having the top dogs take over when things get rough makes sense to me. Sending the juniors to backup posts as well.
Unfortunately being a TV show, the expense of actually hiring the 87 crew and fitting costumes etc when most of them will be seen briefly once or twice a season is unaceptable. (How many marines were added to that 87 crew? I don't recall.)
