Can anyone tell me if there is an easy way to re-size a model? I have very minimal modeling talents (actually, practicly none at all). Thanks.

Which program are you using.?
If 3ds, you can select all objects and you have the resize button next to the move one.
You can right click this button and you have a % modifier or directly from the view draging, the mouse.
If you want I can post a screenshot later.
Hope this helps,

In LightWave, #DMax, and Milkshape it is all pretty much the same as the above, and pretty easy to do. You do need an eye fo it though, as you will have to manually compare them. Some programs have a size categore that will allow you to placea size per grid square and then the program will tell you the length. Only problem wit hthis is unless everyone uses the same settings models will vary.

okay, so HOW do I open a Model (.mod) file with 3ds? I tried downloading these import utilities from Starfleet Universe, but they don't seem to work

First, make sure you downloaded the plugin for the 3DS version you are using.
You have one for max3, and other for max4 and max5. These plugins donīt work with max6...
You have to unzip them into you plugin directory (there are a .dle and a .dli file), then open 3ds max and go to the menu
File\import and select .MOD in the file type.

okay, now, where can I find a plug in for version 6
-
Unfortunately, max 6 is too new and there is no plugin for it, yet.
Sorry about that.!

UGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Okay, any OTHER ways that I can resize a model then?
-
Without max......You can d/l the free-30-day trial Milkshape and use it just to resize it.
-
I give up.....apparently, there is not an easy way to do this. I DID manage to change the size of the ship, unfortunately this also involves changing (I think) the position of the glow points, and I am sure that it involves other things. And, aside from that, the one model I want to resize crashes the program everytime I try to import it! Ugh. I need to just stick to appreciating what is available.

You can change the glow points with the tools Taldren has provided us, not with max.
Which model are you trying to resize..? Where did you get it...? If it is only to resize it I might be able to help you. (Iīm not to good at modeling)

Get a different size monitor, or stand further away from your current one
Sorry, no help whatsoever
If its only 1 model I dont mind seeing what I can do, although Im not too with it as far as the whole glow thing goes but the SFC3 util for that is pretty easy to use

Alright, what tools are you talking about? All I am finding is the 3ds plug ins and a model viewer
-
And the Model is the Romulan Talon with Weapons pod. (not the talon in the game but the TNG talon scout). Oddly enough, I can open every other SFC3 model, but when I open THAT one, milkshape crashes

Here you have a tutorial and a link to the model tools:
http://www.strategyplanet.com/sfc/sfc3/faq_models.shtml
Go to the link at the beginning called "The Modelling Manual by Taldren".
Hope this helps.

Does Milkshape have some sort of size limit? Two models I have been trying to play with will not load, although other SFC3 models will. The two that won't load into milkshape is the Talonwpod and James F's Raven.
Anyone have anythoughts?

Could be LODs Milkshape doesn't like those. Usually Milkshape is iffy if the ship is over 10,000 polies.
