If you have been here in the early days after SFC eaw got released up to the release of OP you would have seen the spelling police in force. Espicaly those that used to discount others arguments simply because of a few misspled words.
I for one am glad they are gone, it almost tore this place apart along with a few other events.
Just some random posting but something that I have noticed lately and dont miss it.
-
You're right. Why worry about correctness and the truth when you could be ignorant?
-
EAW should be capitalized and preceded by a colon.
You misspelled: "especially", "misspelled"
and left the apostrophe off of the word "don't."
Feel better?
-
It wasn't the occasional mis-spelled word that people objected to. It was posting style. Some people had posting styles that made it extremely difficult to read and understand. We also had users that really over used shortcuts meant more for instant messaging than posts.
-
I've wanted to correct you on your spelling K, if nothing else I used to jam at English. but lately I have found myself having to correct myself and write things down, so I have no room to talk anymore. I just wanted people to get the best impression of you amigo.

At least it's not me Big B!
BTW, even though sometimnes we differ inopinions, thanks for the donation to those in need!
-
The only thing that ever really bugged me were those one paragraph posts that took up a whole page.
-
Its like small print on a Mercedes lease...
-
I was going to correct K, but hey, he has enough problems right now, and I for one feel for him.

In one sentence.
I think that the absence of the spelling police is related to bannings. Many of the worst spellers and composers are among those banned. The ones who caused most offense for other reasons usually could not be bothered to proofread their own works and therefore made the worst and most mistakes with the worst composition.
I think that this is so because proofreading your work gives you the chance to rethink things. You get the chance to see how offensive you were as well as correct errors. It allows you to reconsider your words and whether it is appropriate to say them here. Second thoughts will often allow you to avoid giving offense while still getting your point across.
-
Very interesting and most probably totally valid point!
-
unless of course you are a newbie like we all
were at one time. And didn't know better!
-
Yeah, but then you've got to be some kind of immature or younger newbie who hasn't been banged around after arguing impolitely with others (not on Internet).
-
I'll be honest, I'm sure alot of people have Cringed at my Slaughtering of the english language, But then again, Alot of you also understand My dyslexia.
I think this forum has been great for me on that accord, as It has made me try abit Harder to spell correctly, and not Screw up as much as I have. Of course I still re-read something I've posted and realize Horrible Mistakes, But I'm trying guys, I really am.

Oh I don't know. I proofread pretty regularly and still manage to be fairly offensive, much of the time.
-
You're post is too offensive....could you add some cute fluffy bunnies and niel diamond lyrics?
-
I guess I have to get better at it aswell although I am a good speller it just my Typing is't that great I still have to look at the key board but useing those hot keys is helping.
-
This thread does not exactly fit in cool and refreshing - considering its discussion of bannings I believe it belongs in the private forum that I have not joined on principle. If you want to dump on people where they cannot cannot defend themselves do it in private. That is what your new forum is for. What's the matter, no fun if the public can't see it?
Oh, and you capitalised "no" in your title when it should not have been (in addition to Greens corrections).
I used to correct the spelling here on the old forums under a different name to lighten up heavy arguements sometimes but gave up after a time. (I realised the futility of my efforts...) Some people's writing has improved considerably while here; practice makes perfect!
-
I try not to make may typos, and I do attempt to keep my verbosity at a minimum. However there are certain posters in which I feel the need to make sure I leave few, if any, stones unturned.

I will admit there are still a few left who could use with some help on paragraphs and genreal punctuation. But, I would never wish to Moct (mock?) on anyone.

Being one of the charter members of the new private forum, I can say that there is no dumping on people, nothing going on there in all honesty that didn't go on in the old Hot and Spicy Forum. No naked orgies, no pointing our fingers and laughing at the poor slobs who only post in the C & R forum.
In my opinion, having the Hot Topics as a private forum gives Taldren one more layer of legal protection. In an open to the public forum, anybody could wander in and be insulted, horrified etc by something that was said creating legal liability. In the private forum there can be no "gee I didn't know what to expect, I didn't know what would go on in there, poor pitiful me."

The heck with spelling, I found this to be snotty, nasty and totally uncalled for.

I mean really, Is that any way to talk to somebody? Whats up with all the hostility & anger?
If you have a problem with Hot & Spicy take it up with Taldren. Don't Crap all over the people using it.
