I find that some time during the daylight hours is usually good.

I know that my uncle has one every year when the whole neighborhood has one on the same day. That seems to bring out the people. Of course you have to try to get all the people who live near you to have one on the same day for this to work.

That could explain why my midnight madness garage sale was a bust!

Actually,  if you don't have it on a weekend, I can't see having it at all.  More people off work to come peruse your stuff.  There is also the traditional aspect.  Those sick people who love to yard sale are programmed to go looking for things on Saturday morning.  They're not even going to consider any other day of the week.
