The answer is...YES!
Here is the story. Some of it is long and boring and involves intellectual property rights, copyright law, and trademark rules. So I'll save you all of that. But the good news is that Frey of XC fame has been working for a long time to ensure that a backup plan is in place. The DGA has now been formed in order to continue administering some key pieces of the D2 so that we can all keep playing. The D2 is actually more complex than your PC talking to a main server: There are several different servers and pieces of code between your captain's chair and the fight with that Klingon.
We're all grateful for the work that Taldren has done over the years in bringing what is arguably the best Trek game ever into our lives. And it's the DGA's intention to continue to keep the Dynaverse open for all to enjoy. Ok, let's go flip some hexes!

I have tried before to create a webpage with a serverlist on it but I could never quite figure out what kind of "certificate" the gamespy servers want to see to forward you to the directory server (my impression of the structure...)
Anyway, will a serverlist webpage be possible now? (would be nice to check on servers status from locations without an OP installation or just to avoid waiting for OP to load jut to see if a particularr server is up...)

Any ideas whats happening with the D3?

Not only that, it'd be great to know what files you needed BEFORE you loaded up OP.

Good point, that would be an additional benefit, if the list were to display the campaign descriptions too.

The D-3 will remain with ACVI -- for now. If it does "go", per sae ... there are several machines operated by those in the house here that can run it. ACVI is under contract to keep it up, but someone will correct me if I am wrong, I'm sure.
I do tend to see a lot of focus here on D-2 issues, but the D-3 seems to be the "red-headed stepchild." Well, we always were, frankly.
Getting the D-2'ers and the D-3'ers together is like breaking bread with Pontious Pilot and the 12 Disciples.

Well, I must admit I play on D3 a lot, but if Activision ever shuts down the D3, I will try too move over too D2 with my OP game. The problem is I have yet too ever play an online game with OP. I played plenty of SFC1 and SFC3 games online, but never OP.
Speaking of which, what does all this do too the GSA situation? Will I still be able too play SFC1 on GSA in the future? I play a lot of SFC1 on GSA.

Vicror1st,
Nice to see that you are "up and around". I hope that you are feeling better.
WaterTiger,
Depends on what you mean by "together". There are people who play and work on both games. If you mean to drop one of them in favor of the other, then you are right though, but I don't think that anyone should quit playing their favorite game for someone else. If you mean together as a community, I believe that we are. If SFC2 or 3 had a problem, I'm sure that you'd find people who play the other version trying to do something.

The D-3 will be here.Heck, it can be run on a good machine ourselves if ACVI ever shut it down, which Dan Haggerty says they won't in the near future ... There will be a D-3 -- for a long time.

Activision runs the directory servers for the D3,So nothing should change on that end.

This is done with Enemy Territory - and it shows who is on which server.
I'd like to join the DGA - as I plan a D2 server for my OP Mod. How does one go about doing this?

Yup, I've played with stuff like that, All seeing eye and whatnot, lots of other games left their won api style implementations open for browsing. I've tried all kinds of ldap browsers, code and the like to try and get into the directory server but to no avail...
I was thinking just the serverlist, as the playerlists are not reported to the central server, just the campaigninfo table. (I think... the clients may actually query the individual server directly for campaign info with connection information provided by the directory server) A playerlist needs to talk to the individual server directly as in the "Who's Online" page of my webmap. Or if you know which irc server the partiicular Dyna server is using you could get the logged in playerlist there...
(Check your PMs for info on the DGA)

I've always preferred to be called a "black sheep" or "rebel" as I don't have red hair ;D

Sorry all - this is my first post.
After having played SFC for the better part of 3 yrs - my brother and I went back recently to playing it against one another!
I then went into dynaverse to find that it was down. Going to the Taldren site I found this site.
Now this is my wee problem. I have SFC - EAW and have setup the multiplayer file settings as per the settings in this forum but SFC just crashes out when I select Dynaverse. Would anyone be able to shed any light on what I have done wrong as I am dying to get into some multiplayer SFC action!
Kind Regards
Gil

Hi gilderan. EaW is almost death. The Dyna serves are for Orion Pirates, and I belive, the server files is for OP aswell. so u migh wanna start looking for a copy of OP.

There are a few EAW servers up...but you have to enter the new IP numbers for the directory servers to get on... :)
They are listed in the stickied topics on the main forum here... ;)
