There is no "all of the above" for a reason ...
<S>

Attract new players (is my vote). Maybee with "new blood" there won't be so much "drama" between vetran players all the time that migrates from server-to-server and forums-to-forums.
-
inspite that reason, that would have to be my vote, none of the above

Yip. So basically what *we* are saying is that new blood is important ... OK how?
The "Game of the Month" club gets old IMHO. Freelancer came close, but still misses the naval combat *fleet* aspect of the game, IMO.
I mean either game EAW/OP or SFC3 engines are fine -- even with the bugs that are minor of late.
What we just have never done well is promote this game outside the so-call "community."
I mean take GameSpy ads, for example. They aren't pricey. The RSE fleet has one running 24/7 ... You know how many hits they get with that? Huggeeeee.
I have always been af firm believer in "If you build it, they will come."
But we need -- as a community -- to market it.

SQL will -- and always had had issues with this game. I wish you luck, though. Can't stop the open threads, especially in SFC3 with SQL, although someone will argue that, I'm sure. Get past 30+players, forget it ... crashola.
And the game is fine as it is ... Cept' I still think OP/EAW has MAJOR balancing issues, IMHO.
-
I say we make the game for us. If other gamers come, fantastic, but we shouldn't change what is a tried and true game theory just to get a high post count.
Fix what's wrong, then show off a bug-free game. That will attract plenty of people.

Strange your buddy MrGoo thinks mysql will work.
Balence issues being talked about from a D3 nut....All of the games can have balence issues it all depends on the shiplist and server set up.
You should know that ;D

Isnt the game off the market?
How do you attract new players (other than bean em on the head and send them to amazon)

LOL Whoo apt as usual.

Exactly. Most new gamers want flash and easy, so why should we advertise to them?
I'm not saying we don't get the word out, I'm just saying don't change what's good.
Meh, I said that already.

The game is easily obtainable. The games these days sux or are pay-for-play format.
The Taldren series of games has much to offer, especially for fleets.

Actually there are quite a few new games out there that are very appealing. SFC holds and retains simply because of its unique play style, doesnt make it any better, but certainly makes it different.
The bad part to this is because of its differences, it caters to a smaller crowd, so maybe the focus is keeping those who visit here interested in the game, and not a fruitless hunt of new players over games that are now years out-dated. (mostly :))

Focus on achievable goals. We may never get the source code for the games so bug fixing may not be possible.
The serverkit on the other hand is fixable. SQL can add a lot when it gets fully-operational.

Except that we probably need the source code to fix SQL for the server kit. Any sign of that?
-
My vote went to increasing the player base.
I think there is another view to "build it and they will come", that being we have over the last 5 years built, played, modded quite a bit.
Unfortunately the player base continues to shrink. I would much rather have a decently running game with a larger player base than a perfect game with only a few nut cases still around.
While mildly amusing, playing with myself would get boring quite quickly (not meant as sexual innuendo for u freaks out there, hehheheheh).

not to my knowledge, but the Server kit code is not affected by the Suicksilver BS so we SHOULD get that.

Something "this" side of the crowd never really understood was the GSA battles in SFC3.
There are two GSA Wizards here, Whoo and DevilJones.
The SFC3 crowd just did things different -- always has -- always will.

Wizard?
Me?
nahhhhh just a lump on a log :D

I would have to say that to attract more players to both Games. In OP everyone want to play Fed or Klink for the most part.I am not sire what it like in SFC3 as I only have been reading the threads in D2.
-
Attracting players is hard when we don't have the game available in stores.
