I've just spent the last six hours getting the directory servers to run. And it was pure hell too. Oh well, what is my torment to your enjoyment, eh? :D
To get your copy of SFC2 back running, please do the following:
Open your
C:\Program Files\Taldren Software Inc\Starfleet Command Orion Pirates\MetaAssets\ServerProfiles\Multiplayer\
folder. In it there is a file called WONServerSetup.gf. Edit this with a text editor, preferably Notepad.
Make the following changes to this file:
[WONDirectoryServer/Addresses]
0="63.101.60.125:15101"
//0="sfc2.west.won.net:15101"
//1="sfc2.central.won.net:15101"
//2="sfc2.east.won.net:15101"
Save the file and your ready to enjoy SFC2:OP in all it's glory and splendor.
People running servers will also need to make a change as well, as follows:
Open your folder containing your server, navigate through your Assets\Server Profiles\_CentralSwitchPlusAllServers\ directories, find ServersSetup.gf, and make the following changes:
[WONDirectoryServer/Addresses]
0="63.101.60.125:15101"
//0="sfc2.west.won.net:15101"
//1="sfc2.central.won.net:15101"
//2="sfc2.east.won.net:15101"
Save the file. Your server is now able to launch.
I ask a moderator or administrator sticky this post to the top, as it is vital to get your game back running.
Thanks!

stickied.

Also,
when you get to the text file named: WonServerSetup, right click it and choose properties.
It will probably be checked "read only". Uncheck this box and choose "apply".
Then make the modifications to the file. ;)
-
Is the EAW server directory also up. If so... how do we gain access?
-
:rwoot:
Once again Elf, you rock!!!
-
Thanks Elf, that did the trick, great work.
For other idiots like me I opened the folder, renamed the old file. Then opened it again in notepad deleted the section described by Elf, and pasted in the new section from the post. Then saved the amended file back with the original name and .gf extension. Worked first time.
Thanks agin Elf, good job.

DE, you rock. Without you, my growing addiction would flounder and die. Now I'll be able to become truly dependent. Huzzah!

I have little to no computer skills. I don't know the first thing about opening files or changing them.
I would love to join a fleet and get on the Dyna 2.
But this has me stymied completely. Does anybody have any suggestions? :smackhead: :help: :help: :help:

Thank you DarkElf! :notworthy:

Maybe Pestalence could throw together a quick installer/patch to do the job when he gets a chance?

Here's (http://members.surfbest.net/sfb76279@surfbest.net/Files/WONServerSetup.zip) the ammended WONServerSetup file up for download.
Hope that helps :)
P.S. :woot: :rwoot: Thank ye much, DarkElf :D
-
Thanks you guys are really great!! :)
-
The slashes just make those lines comments, right? Can't we just lose those lines altogether??
-
Thanks so much for your efforts. :notworthy: :notworthy:
This is great news!
-
This is good. Very good.
Now here's a question: is there a way to have Taldren contact won.net and have them change the DNS entries for the directory servers to point to that IP address? Could someone take care of that?
.. That would ensure that newbies and players who don't frequent these forums much to be able to play with us all the time.

Dark Elf, you are a SFC God!!!

Indeed, Thanks DE

Oh, what do server admins need to change for this to work? is the GF file the same?
-
DE, you are a code machine ;)
But here is my question, could this game be done in such a way as to allow for someone to run a server from home WITHOUT passing though GSA at all?
Hooch

Ok found the file, i get messege windows cannot open this file, it does not know what program created it?? now what do i do??
-
First right click on the file and go to properties and unclick the "read only" box and apply.
Then open the file with notepad or wordpad and copy and paste the changes posted in the original post here and save. You should be good to go then.
-
Call up Explorer; navigate to the file; right click on the file and click on Properties.
Click on the read-only box and then click ok. That removes the Read Only attribute on the file. You will only then be able to edit the file and insert the proper server.
Cheers!
-
I already unchecked the read only box, and i am still bgetting the message windows needs to know what program was used to create this file,, any other suggestions??
-
yeah when you get that window, check the box to select the program you wish to use, and use notepad or wordpad to open it. That should solve your problem.
-
Ahhh got it , thanks Fluff
-
oh you have to replace the first line , not add the new one on top,, got it now

**CHANGED TO REFLECT THE NEW IP ADDRESS**
OK,
Anyone that wishes to not put an ip address in their gf file and replace "won" with "blackfleet"
In other words:
0="sfc2.west.won.net:15101"
1="sfc2.central.won.net:15101"
2="sfc2.east.won.net:15101"
becomes:
0="sfc2.west.blackfleet.net:15101"
1="sfc2.central.blackfleet.net:15101"
2="sfc2.east.blackfleet.net:15101"
I actually encourage dynaverse.net to setup:
0="sfc2.west.dynaverse.net:15101"
1="sfc2.central.dynaverse.net:15101"
2="sfc2.east.dynaverse.net:15101"
that way, they can change servers as needed and the end users will not have to edit the gf file.
We still need to talk to the won.net guys to see if they can make the change so new users will not have to make these changes...

Me two! :-\ :'(

Is the EAW server directory also up. If so... how do we gain access?
You can access the EAW dyna by modifying the WONserversetup.gf file in the same way you need to in order to log in on the OP Dyna. Although any of my friends using dialup are still getting the firewall error after modifying, all of my friends on cable/dsl are able to get in.

Unstickied as we now have the directory server mini-patch installer.
