Title: Gravity Well back up on QNX MySQL db
Post by: Bonk on July 02, 2004, 06:15:44 am
I've pretty much finished the switchover to a Linux MySQL db (have yet to move the chat server over too).
It looks as stable as it was on a local db (hopefully more). I had to reset the db (sorry) due to some different behaviour of the db on Linux - its for the good of the game...  ;D I have a thread going in the admin forums but I thought I should let people know here.

(The Race is still burping like RDSL did however, I'm thinking of giving it up and putting the stable SFB-OP server back up, because The Race wont work out well as the intended test of hex flipping if it keeps dying and I wasn't willing to put that much effort into it... Thoughts?)

So if you're itching waiting for LB5, give the new db on the Gravity Well (http://www.frescos.dns2go.com:30033/gwell/) a whirl and let me know if you see any quirkiness...

(The webmap shipyard is temporarily disabled until I finish accounting for the differences of running it all on Linux - won't be long till its working again...)

And yes WaterTiger, we know what you think of this. Keep that $100 ready just in case!  ;)

The servers have been stable (with no load) on the Linux MySQL db but...
I've decided I'm not happy with the overall performance of Fedora Core 2 (the Linux distribution I'm using - should have gone with SlackWare...), being a sucker for punishment I'm going to try QNX 6.2.1, the servers and webmaps will be down for a bit while I get the QNX setup up and running over the next couple of days....

Servers and webmaps are back up on the QNX MySQL db. So far it looks good but I still need to do some more tweaking, let me know if you see any weirdness, thanks.

In my opinion QNX (http://www.qnx.com/) beats Fedora (http://www.fedora.redhat.com/) hands down, though trickier to install and configure and has a more limited selection of applications. (though many Linux binaries can run and other apps need minimal modification before compliling)  QNX 6.2.1 can be obtained by registering at www.openqnx.com to get access to their downloads. Version 6.3 can be obtained at www.qnx.com by registering - v6.3 comes bundled with the Momentics development suite which expires after 30 days leaving you with just the non-commercial OS.

Good to know, it seems to be rated up there with slackware, I've been going over the reviews now like I guess I should have done before starting this project.

Hoi Folks,

 Just off the cuff, I would be willing to Put my $0.25 US to Have a "red phone" so that FireSoul and Bonk could share SFB-OP ideas. Hummm... many others others come to mind who should have "red phone" access as well...
  drb wakes up from the nightmare; he says under his breath,"Thank goodness it lives on at dynaverse. net."
 Dressed and making a pot of coffee he wonders where he can find a copy of the fabled "old forums."
  Thanks to all who were envolved in the project that has kept this game going.

You're probably right...

.. Bonk, look at my user's profile for ICQ and MSN entries. Perhaps you can add me to your list and vice-versa?

I had the server down for a while... she's back up again... lol.. ;)

I got Apache 2.0.50 and PHP 5.0.0 compiled and running on ONX 6.3.0!!!  :multi: :drink:
Check it out: Gravity Well (http://www.frescos.dns2go.com:30033/gwell/)

The D2 Server is connected to MySQL's 4.0.18-max binary distribution for QNX 6.2.1 (running on QNX 6.3).

I'm stewing on what to do with SFB-OP at Green's suggestion.

well, Convoy Escort bugged out on the report at 7,11. Wiped the opposition without 1 loss with the help of AI reinforcements and got a 0 PP defeat out of it.

Thanks for checking it out Strafer (and the feedback), much appreciated! I only ran one mission on it last night and have been making up a sleep defecit all day today... ;)  I just woke up... yawn... need coffee... bad!

The recent battles script on the webpage indicates a DV shift but no PP award, which makes it look like it reported ok. I'll take a look at the db to see if I see anything funny, I suspect the mission(?). I'll try a couple convoy escorts and other missions to see... after I get my coffee.

(db looks ok - it seems the mission gave you a defeat but a positive DV shift, odd I must try a few out and see...)

I just ran a couple missions - one convoy escort, all went fine.
I had a hard time on the convoy escort I drew 2 x K-F5Ds vs my one GSC,
needed the help of the reinforcements to get em - no losses, got 500pp
and the DV shift. I'll try a few more to see if we see this again...

It took a while though, and I think all the freighters got off the map,
were there any freighters left on the map in the convoy escort you ran?

edit: here's the current stats (nothing looks untoward except the 7 aborted connects which I think are from my errors during initial setup, but I'm going to keep a close eye on all these numbers...)

Ran a couple more missions, including another convoy escort, all went normally. I'm stumped as to what happened to your convoy escort. Lets see if anything odd happens to any other players on the other side of the router...

It took a while though, and I think all the freighters got off the map,
were there any freighters left on the map in the convoy escort you ran?
I believe all were still on the map, the two agressors were dealt with in 5:00 or so.

It reported defeat with a none survivied/dark day message, gave me the sad music, gave me no cash, and shifted the DV positively...

That is odd, the last convoy escort I ran, the freighters were still on the map when I destroyed the enemy ships and finished the mission, all reported as it should... thanks for the additional info. I'll keep an eye on this, perhaps it is related to my gf settings?

Did it again, this time in 3:57 with no reinforcements. The freighters were definitely still within sensor range.

Definitely something up there, what are you drawing for enemy AI?  I'm consistently drawing 2xF5Ds vs my GSC... I'm thinking this might be a gf setting... (the db looks fine)

I'm using the following:

in Score.gf:
[Hex]
WinThreshold         =0.02

in MetaMap.gf:
[Battle]
MinVictoryPointsForPlayerVictory=0.02
MinVictoryPointsForAIVictory=0.01
HexHealthResetRatio=0.02
FriendlyPassThroughHex=3
AllowAIToTakeHexes=0

[VictoryPointModifier]
Easy=1
Med=1
Hard=1
PureAI=0.2

I'm thinking the values used might be just on the cusp for the matchup you're getting... these gf values have always been a bit mysterious to me, particularly:
MinVictoryPointsForPlayerVictory=0.02
MinVictoryPointsForAIVictory=0.01
The kit seems upset if you set them equal which they should be in my mind, the kit likes to see the AI value lower than the player value and neither greater than the winthreshold, this may explain what is happeneing. Though I seem to recall Jeff and Fluf using equal values sucessfully.

Other missions are normal?

(I just saw the report on your mission at 11,13 - (base defese?) 1000pp awarded but no DV shift... lol, seems you can one or the other - that's no good. Your first mission was normal... hmmm it like theres something different about the Klinks... let me examine this... I'm going out for drinks shortly and have to work tomorrow   :banghead:, but I'll do my best to figure out what's going on here...

On the two C.E.s I had a F-DD and F-CL.
Other missions are reporting victories. Last one was fleet action with 2 DD left on the board against myself and a D7. No contest but still. Maybe Karnak set in a default win check if there's no chance in hell?.. :)

Hm, Klingons really aren't loved!
Convoy RAID this time. Dispatched 2 escorts and started to plot my course towards the freighters some 20K away. Got mission complete and a defeat. Didn't even get a chance to take a shot at the ships. They were nowhere near a border.

could it be the alliances?  Maybe you are drawing allied freighters(even if they do not show up that way).  You kill the escorts, no enemy left so mission ends, but you have killed no freighters?

Just a thought...

Neutral maybe, but not allied. The ` key would not have worked otherwise...

All the initial empire tensions are at 1000 (maximum) with each other. Shouldn't be that, its either the score settings or the mission I figure... I'm curious to see if it happens in a different klingon ship... I'll try one out to see.

Sure, fire off some missions to me (or post for download) and I can add/swap them on the Gravity Well if desired. (edit: just fopund the link on the other thread - downloading now)

Any desired settings? Just the new missions, or should I just add them in? Mixed with EEK , mixed with stock? (have to edit the mission list in the db or reset) Showmission names on? etc...

Just got a double fire bug on an EEK mission a while ago today (on host left message) so its fresh in my mind.

Well, in the past, we had problems with missions drafting allies as enemies.  You could kill them and get a negitive DV shift(your side lost, lol).

But neutral is more likely, no enemies left to kill end mission....

I guess a way to test this would be to kill off the freighters first.....

The Gravity Well is now running the "double-bug" test missions: http://pet.dhs.org/~firesoul/sfc2/NW-ED-double-bug/OPCoreMissions-doublebug-test.zip
for the week, possibly other tests later in the week.
I'll put the original EEK missions back in next week, no need to reset.
Hopefully we can get these bugs licked with a little luck and co-operation.

Now running  Total War missions (http://www.sfcx.org/downloads/mirrors/NuclearWessels/OPTotalWar.zip) to see how they go for double-bugs etc., it looked good last night. I'll leave it on these missions for a week or so...

Post any bugs or annoyances here, and I'll check in regularly to figure out what needs afixin

thanks,

EDIT: first known bug - dinna be suprised if you get an abnormally high number of missions that end right away
(programmer error: doh! ;D )

Switched back over to EEK 2.1 and an additional EEK double-bug test mission now, files requred are listed on the webmap (http://www.frescos.dns2go.com:30033/gwell/). Mission names are on, try some co-ops against the Hydrans, look to see if the test mission shows any double fighters. I'm going out tonight but may be back early enough, and sober enough(?) to get some co-op tests in on the new mission myself. This is intended to help out with testing missions for GW3.

Oh, and I'm the blabbermouth huh? lol...  :D

Wasn't that on the SFB-OP map? (not up at the moment) I don't think there is a similar hex on the Gravity Well map... (or have I got it wrong?) Did you mean on the mission tactical map?

Here ya go, copied and pasted from the server description (http://www.frescos.dns2go.com:30033/gwell/): (I can't use "http://" in the server description or the kit cuts off the description at the first double slash... that's probably why, anyway...)

Campaign Description:

Six empires duke it out on a small map. Requires OP+3.4 shiplist (klingon.stasis.ca/OP_plusrefit/), EEK 2.1 missions (www.pwfe.com/EEK-Scripts/EEK-OP21.exe) and an EEK double-bug test mission (www.pwfe.com/EEK-Scripts/Kar_ePatrol.scr)

so with the "http://" bits that is:
http://klingon.stasis.ca/OP_plusrefit/
http://www.pwfe.com/EEK-Scripts/EEK-OP21.exe
and http://www.pwfe.com/EEK-Scripts/Kar_ePatrol.scr  (paste in, overwriting existing mission)

Yay! the Gravity Well is back to its snafu self!  ;D

I've got the php shipyard working on the webmap (http://www.frescos.dns2go.com:30033/gwell/) again. Both the native and direct shiplist yards are working. :multi: (can buy ships out of time period still tho.. ;)) It'll need some testing to see if my new strategy holds up.

I also edited the map to make mission testing easier and I think for the better overall... now it really is more like a Gravity Well... I may edit it some more, if I get the right evil idea.  ;D

Shhh!! Don't tell them about the Map Terrain surprise that a player just may get to see a certain CLASSIFIED percentage of the time.  Shhh!!

I got a look at one of the tactical maps, nice... want to see more...  but we still have double fighters... (See the ATTENTION BONK thread...)

I have been CTD a lot on the Gravity Well server during battle.  Single player battles also.

Are you crashing out on Kar_ePatrol.scr? (mission names are on...) That is the test mission. I think I'll just take it out and go back to the regular EEK2.1 missions until we have a new mission to test... as this one did not work.

Of the two missions reported on the recent battles page which you ran in the last two days which one was bugged? Have you run more than two battles in the last two days and they are not reporting? Were all the bugged missions Kar_ePatrol.scr? (thanks for any info you can provide).

1) Sorry for ragging on you there Tomolock.

2) The test mission is no good, the Gravity Well is back to plain old EEK 2.1 till the next test mission is available.
