i would like to note that sfc, while you are blowing up hundreds, and at times thousands of people - is not as graphic as some of the other games out there.

Sound like a bunch of election year posturing, And a giant waste of tax payer money. ::)
If i see a game i don't want my kids playing. They don't get it. And it is not allowed in my house.
You can't legislate good parenting and supervision.
-
you are correct, imo.
-
I sometimes get complaints when my site reviews violent games, there are people that video violence annoys.
-
That is so BS. I hate these stupid uptight jerks who think the governement has to do parents' jobs for them.
-
Hehe..
I think I will pick up that MK game :)
Chalk me up to the masses that say "let the parents do the parenting"
Myself, I will close the door and let the carnage begin!!!
-
:) Exactly !! Adults should not have to suffer for the indiscretions of a few.
I wonder if these Law makers realize that not just children play these games. I have been gaming since the days of Pong, And should be able to play what i want to. With out Govt. interference. >:(

I completly agree with the Parents taking a More Pro-active Stance in what there Kids do.
I picked up a Game called PainKiller a few weeks ago. There Is No way in Hell, I would want any Minor to play that game. The Subject matter along with A Topless Eve (From the Bible) is not appropriate for any of the Little kids I know in my family.
But The game is Fun for an FPS.
I think this can be said about alot of games out there. I also heard where a Christian Game developer was hiring, But I forgot the link.

Then vote for people who though like Ronald Reagan did, "Too much government is the problem".

My parents dont mind the violence... they mind the sexual themes and inuendos... imho that is what most parents are concerned about... I used to play GTA2 all of the time, and then when GTA3 came out, I played it until I got tired of it... I haven't been on any murdering sprees to my knowledge, well... at least not lately.
This is an example of too much government... Although I agree that parents do need to be there when a child buys an M game. In total I've gotten four M games, with out my parents being there. They dropped me off, they knew why it was rated M, and they knew why. Still, the clerk did not know that. When I bought GTA2 (Rated M), I was 12. When I bought GTA3 I was 14, and when I bought the Half Life bundle (I was 15), and then the CZ stand alone expansion to counterstrike (15), the clerk never raised an eyebrow. This is a problem... But it should be dealt with the same way alcohol is dealt with, but on a much less strictness. I cant go into a store and buy alcohol with my parents there... I disagree with that. I just feel that a minor cannot buy something like that alone... He can buy it, IF AND ONLY IF his parents are there with him.

I've got it!
Just enable the games to work with the V-Chip that is already in your TV. If the parent activates the V-Chip then the kid can't play the game because the video is blocked.
-
It's the parent's responsibility. If they knew, they should have stopped it, if they didn't they are neglegent.
Violence or Sexuality does not breed evil. I can honestly say that I've played Quake and Half-Life and have not gone on murder sprees. GTA never appealed to me, the whole kick prostitutes and use them thing put me off royally. I don't mind combat between warriors, but as soon as you start killing innocents and the like you can expect to feel my rocket launcher. But that is where I draw the line. Much as I'd like to, I can't ban GTA, because some GTA nut would probably look down his nose on Baldur's Gate for "OBVIOUS SATAN WORSHIP"!!! or somesuch.
If you get the full picture, you will be better off for it.
<rant="on">
I think that everyone who play's GTA should take a listen to this song: Lost in the Flood (http://www.lyrics.jp/lyrics/B008400010085.asp). It shows the half of GTA that Rockstar didn't publish.
<rant="off">
Phew. There. I got it off my chest. Thank you much for reading,

Are you just against GTA because I like it? Anyway... I don't think that computers have V-Chips... and what about older TV's? I have a TV in my room thats 40 yrs old...

Plain and simple - there is a rating system on games and as others have post here, IT IS THE PARENTS who are responsible for what goes into their homes. Some parents need to take their heads out of their a$$e$ and get a clue.

Hmm, I'll be one of the odd ones out here. I think it's rather disgusting how some of these games bring things out. Take the GTA series. If I said, I find it fun to steal someone's car, maybe yours, beat up your father with a baseball bat, shoot your house windows up, and beat up people on the street, rob the local bar, and kill a few cops...just for kicks...
Some of you probably would be on your phones trying to get the FBI after me...however if I then add, it's just in a video game...this makes it all right?
I personally have never played the GTA series, my parents do not allow me to, and my relatives actually respect their wishes. Since that time when I was first barred, I have gotten older, and also if I so desired probably able to buy the game...however, perhaps it's how I was raised, but when I saw how someone was playing it, there was a morbid fascination, the sort that makes you sick thinking about it. My friend said it was fun...I found it rather stomach turning.
I think there IS a lot to be said about what we watch and see and practice determines how we feel about something. I think a lot of those raised who are allowed to play these vile games have no problems with violence, in fact it desensitizes them to such things. When one is desensitized, they won't think it has bad if they ever deliberate about doing it themselves.
Now I have to admit, I DO play violent games (Max Payne comes to mind), but typically most games make you out to be fighting for something good and right...even if it's because of mistaken identity. Playing a criminal and doing criminal things, and seeing that as cool. Perhaps one could blame parents, and I DO think a majority of the blame lies in parents, but what of those parents that don't care WHAT happens to their children.
I think there should be regulations on such things. Perhaps it's a difference of culture in what I see as acceptable and what is not. Adults can have the freedom to express things, and perhaps do things. I still think it's influential and desensitizes them, however, I think such an effect is magnified several MANY times on children. I see how my reaction is so different than others because I wasn't exposed to such stuff, and when seeing it, see how disgusting it really is.
Think about what you are saying. You are saying, yes, you approve of selling something to a child that simulates sex, murder, crime, stealing, and lawlessness. Is that what you REALLY want?
Perhaps this is why there's such a difference of understanding between the US and the rest of the world. Desensitized by it's media, the US doesn't think twice about some of the stuff it's exporting, or the tastelessness of some of the items it deems important to culture, whilst everyplace else, these things turn people's stomachs and make us wonder, what the heck are they thinking over there!

Well as a Canadian i can relate to you on this one, but as far as regulating computer games ?. Is it doable sure, you can slap all kinds of warning stickers and caution lables all over games. But in the end those are gonna be the games that kids want and will go to about any length to get it. What i find odd is that some people really want to go ahead with this. I Remember when Tipper Gore ( wife of Al. all great inventor of the internet) railed agaisnt the music industry and its vile effect on children? I remember thinking that at the time there were 10 of millions people in the US without health insurance and struggling to make it day-to-day and all this shrew has got time to do is worry about someone singing four letter words.
Misplaced priorities. Make sure kids as they grow up have enough to eat a solid education and good health. then you can worry about if junior should be allowed to have the next GTA
