I liked it. Elements of the movie reminded me of 2001: A Space Odyssey, Bladerunner (definitely), and Diehard. I also saw a trailer for Aliens vs Predator, which looked neat. I dont think I, Robot will be a stayer, but its a cool action/ detective flick, worth seeing if you want to drop eight bucks and veg for two hours.

The problem I have with I, Robot is that other than the title, and the fact it deals with robots and a possible murder, is that the trailer bears little resemblence to what I remember of the books. I am not alone in this as well. A lady I work with after seeing the trailer actually got out her I, Robot book and re-read it. Finding pretty much the same commonalities that I have found.
If you're going to make a movie based on a Science Fiction classic. Stick close to the actual source.

I agree..I reread the book, and as I've said, it was mostly an interview with Susan Calvin, and the exploits, problems, etc with US Robotics...no car chases, murders, etc...

And To this Day, Th First Chapter will always be My Favorite. Where Robbie saves the Little girl in the Robot Factory. and the Girls Mother Relents.

I liked the movie as an action/adventure picture. I knew it wouldn't follow Asimov's story. However the movie bears a resemblence to a story set in Asimov's robot universe, Caliban.

As far as set design, I would have preferred a "grittier" world, not a copy of Minority Report.

Oh cripes, please tell me it's really not like Caliban.

It isn't Asimov's book, because the studio got the film rights to Asimov's I Robot after they already had a script in hand from someone else with some similar elements. They changed the title, included a few elements from Asimov, and voila - instant movie.

SPOILER ALERT ! SPOILER ALERT!

What I don't get is the stupid complex series if events that was set into motion. While I liked the movie, the old man leaving a series of clues because Viki, the AI Bitch from hell, supposedly had him under some sort of confinement. What you couldn't write a note? I'm sure there was somewhere he could have done it...rather than have a robot kill him with a hologram and a series of bread crumbs. I mean really now.
