Hallo all ;D Had some spare time during an extended lunch break, so did a quick bash on something that has annoyed me for ages. What i did was take Atra's D5W model and change the center warp (which i never got on with on that "rollbar" for some reason) into something SFB style such as found on the C8 style dreadnoughts etc. I did this mainly for myself, but thought i would release it in case anyone else preferred this style too.
I did consider putting the center warp up on top like the proper SFB D5W, and may still do that in the future, but this seems like it works well for now.
EDIT: For some stupid bloody reason the first link wont take you to the ship, but the second ship link below does work. As a temporary way around it, use the second link but change the 736 in the link to 735 to be able to download the first variant. As another alternative, you can do a search for "Wolfsglen" and check all 3 options (File Name/Creator/Author/Description) and see everything i have uploaded to SFU

Looks much better now, that rollbar bugged me too... Though I'd suggest shunting it back a bit so it's not on the neck as I don't believe the D5W could separate which was the reason for the pylon position on the Dreadnoughts. The SFB position for this was also a bit silly I thought as the plasma conduit and associated machinery from the warp core would have to go directly through the middle of the shuttlebay to get to the third nacelle, if you place it on the bottom like you have there's no obstruction.
-
Hmm tis a good idea, i'll see if i can get that done as a variation tonight or tomorrow, probably on another lunch break ;D

More like this?

Molto bene... ;D

Sweet, ill see about getting it finished and uploaded tonight
EDIT: Added to first post ;D

Mucho better! The way that third nacelle was mounted on the D5W always bugged me too.
-
I don't know if you're interested, but the third warp engine on the D5W is mounted on top of the deckhouse, so the engines form a sort of triangle from the front.
-
Which I never understood as the shuttle bay is on top of the enginering section as well as two of the drone racks.

That's because SFB doesn't make any sense in a lot of it's ideas given later developements in Trek, obviously they weren't to know that the warp engines are inside the ship but we know that now and in that knowledge the placement on the SFB D5W is illogical as the pointy-ears would say.

I am indeed, i will very likely do a SFB-style D5W version of these ones next with the upper-warp so everyone can pick and choose hehe.

By the way, just realised for some reason the first link up above wont work :soap: But ive added a workaround in the first post.

The SFB warp is attached under, on the boom.. to be used in case of separation.

Could anyone make a TOS era bash of Atra's D5 with WZ's D7 Klolode parts? I'd love that, and I'd finally be able to get a proper D5 lineage going. Right now, I was using Desty's D5 as the base unit and Atra's as the refit, but obviously they're almost totally different ships, so that doesn't really fly well.
Nice work Wolfsglen.

Well Wolfsglen, for your plan on making a top-mounted design I can offer my suggestions if you'll have them:
Split the yellow->red grill in the middle wide enough to accomodate the center pylon.
Reduce the depth of the pylon somewhat, and make it just high enough to clear the deckhouse and the diagonal boxes on the sides.
That would make the nacelle come out of the main enginering section, yet be backed up enough to work in tandem with the two mains...
That't be my $0.02... :P

I was actually trying today to make a TMP version with WZ's K'T'inga and Atra's D5 to match the rest of my Klinks but alas the textures are a bi-yotch to line up with the mesh. Anyone able to combine WZ's K'T'inga (and presumably Klolode) head and engines, and shuttlebay with the body and neck of Atra's D5?

That's not the case on the SFB D5W. It's mounted on top, not to the boom.

Nice work man ;D

I stand corrected: my booms & saucers module doesn't show the warp.

I see a Black Fleet version in the future...
I think it would be even better to have a version of this with the warp engine attached a la Foresoul's recent kitbashes.

Well, it's more than just kitbashing. I notice that the D5 has larger windows on it's head, and is a good bit smaller than the D7 component it's based on. I'd prefer a retexture doe most of the ship, and a rescaled set of D7 (or smaller D7-styled) engines to match. I happen to like having ships that are all on similar scales, instead of having to have a frigate with smaller windows than an DN. It gets annoying after a while, kinda like what happens to the BoP and Defiant on DS9. They go from 120m to 50m to 400m in three episodes flat! ;D
-
Yes but resizing a couple of windows is not that hard, oh and the D5 has D7 engines, they're meant to look too big for the ship's body.
-
If it's ok with you, I may replace the D5W I am currently using with the D5W2 above. I will need to create the LODs and fill in parts of the breakmod, won't I. *sigh*.
-
I dont mind at all, might want to drop Atra a line to make sure its ok though, i wouldnt want to step on anyones toes.
They do have LODs included with them for OP (its all i play) but will need the brkmod parts filled in im afraid (i dont know how to do that yet or i would)

Great job as usual Wolfsglen sir ! Losing the rollbar, and the repositioning of the narcell in ver2 kicks azz.
;D

BTW did you get a chance to review that request I forwarded to ya ? Obviously you're the man to ask,not me ;) I just play with crayons :P
