Title: Looking for a game?
Post by: _SSCF_Hooch on July 30, 2004, 02:52:20 pm
Does anyone here have Battle Ground's game "Waterloo",  "Prelude to Waterloo", or SSI's "Imperialism"?

I would love to host an IP game with you. Imperialism will host up to 6 players.

Lemme know.

My wargaming is now in the realm of Korsun Pocket, an operational WW2 game that is ideal for PBEM. Look at http://www.ssg.com.au/

Funny thing is the original game design is about 8 or 9 years old. Can't beat a good game design I guess. KP is only almost a year old and the next game in the series is out next month.

I will take a peek, KP looks interesting, it has the SPI type of map.

Yes but it is a PBEM, and I get the impression you are after some pseudo face to face wargaming that the direct connect games can give you if you use voice chat over messenger and maybe even use a webcam just so you can see the other guy really is drinking beer and not lemonade. Anyway be warned about the lack of direct connect, but other than that it is one of those basicly simple but complex games where the best thinker should win.

Hmmm, another old gaming system with great gaming depth.

My wargaming is face to face with miniatures using a group of rules called Piquet. Between my friends and myself we have 10mm ACW, 10/12mm WWII (German, Russian, American, and Japanese), 6mm Napoleonic (British, French, Austrian, Russian, Prussian, Brunswick, and Saxons), 10mm Ancients (Republican and Imperial Romans, Carthage, Spanish, and Gauls/Celts), and the just started WWI aerial with 1/144 aircraft.

Naaa. PBEM looks to be fun too. I just want to get back to my war gaming roots, hexes, counters, and dices rolls. (can't do the dice anymore but historical gaming is a learning as well as fun time. Real man stuff  ::)

Well KP will show you the digital dice roll, and you can even see the game stats if you think the other guy has loaded dice. That is one reason for this games popularity I think. It looks and plays like a classic boardgame but the design doesn't need a fudge to accomodate reponses to the current players actions ie there is no opportunity fire.

And another thing, people talk about patches and updates, the game includes a fully updated version of the original Ardennes Offensive game that came out all those years ago. When Battles in Normandy comes out next month it will have another update and revision of the original game to include all the new features. Now that is class.

I have a 12 mm British Napoleonic Peninsula army based for the Napoleons Battles rule set. Makes for brigade sized units and have multi-corps battles instead of the smaller Piquet scale. (Nothing against the smaller scale, just explaining what I've got)

Napoleons Battles is a good set of rules and what is even more important is that you like them. We are looking at building Peninsula armies and have planned on using 10's for that. What I find somewhat scary is the fact that someone here actually new what Piquet is although with the range of people here I shouldn't be surprised.

I don't play ACW, only Napoleonics, but I have watched some very fun ACW battles using the Piquet system.
