Title: What does "community" mean to you?
Post by: AdmWaterTiger-11thFleet- on July 30, 2004, 09:54:07 pm
Ok, we talk about this all the time .. We throw this word around daily in this house.

Minus the personal attacks, what does this mean to YOU as it applies to the Taldren series of games?

I'm curious after seeing this word abused for the sake of flamebait.

I'll repeat what I have said publically and paraphrase later.

Well, let me ask you something? Do you have a family...? If you do then you know that arguments happen. You also might know that in any group of people that there are going to be personality clashes. There's also, unfortunately, going to be politics and power plays.
Oh, and Trolls. :troll:

A community for one, does not attack a fleet for bearing a resembelence to a fleet who, until recently, has not played the same game as the said fleet.

As far as game communities go, somewhere I can check out developments and issues in the games I'm playing and am interested in. For multiplayer games this would usually include how the players are doing and issues regarding interaction between players.

Not much more than that, it is after all just a game.

Sky, no one is attacking anything or anyone, really. The timing on Sandman's coming out of the closet was very bad, along with a disgrunted former member of the 11th who jumped ship and went to the knock off fleet. This goes back a long ways. Talk to Ryker. He knows the issue, even though he pretends not to ... And the SFC3 division for the 11thFleet has been around a looong time.

The Web search premise by Sandman is ridiculous.

com·mu·ni·ty    ( P )  Pronunciation Key  (k-myn-t)
n. pl. com·mu·ni·ties

   1.
         1. A group of people living in the same locality and under the same government.
         2. The district or locality in which such a group lives.
   2.
         1. A group of people having common interests: the scientific community; the international business community.
         2. A group viewed as forming a distinct segment of society: the gay community; the community of color.
   3.
         1. Similarity or identity: a community of interests.
         2. Sharing, participation, and fellowship.

   4. Society as a whole; the public.
   5. Ecology.
         1. A group of plants and animals living and interacting with one another in a specific region under relatively similar environmental conditions.
         2. The region occupied by a group of interacting organisms.

----------------------------

I think this is about as clearly defined as it can be...

Obviously, one can narrow or broaden the context of the word as it relates to this community to suit one's needs or meaning.  There can be an SFC2 community, an SFC3 community and a community made up of both the SFC2 and SFC3 communities.

Ack..I'm now posting dictionary definitions.  It's time to go to bed.

How many ways can you think to flame someone WT?

It seems to be endless with you and your BS.

That is PURE flame bait and you know it.

You and your "community" questions are simply another attempt at getting people rialed up for the sake of arguing.

You statement would have been fine if not for that bit of flame bait in there.

Why do you grow up.

But alas you'll not have to worry much longer.

Soon you will have the D3 all to yourself.

Then you can goto war with yourself, flame yourself, have discussions with yourself....etc etc etc

And of course the name "Eleventh Fleet" was knocked off from the creators of StarBlazers. Just read the rest of that web site you found.

Does this mean the "BOTA Knights" name is free for anyone to use?

I wouldn't use it.

It would make me feel dirty. ::)

While you're entitled to your opinions regarding the BOTA Knights, it doesn't seem to me that your post in this thread had any point other than to be insulting.  You were doing fine until the last line and that means everything in this case.  Please desist.
