Title: "V"?
Post by: Dash Jones on August 07, 2004, 05:34:44 pm
This is a series that is supposed to be coming out or already out on DVD.  It also has a movie or something which I think I caught on TV once upon a time about two years ago...or at least part of the movie.

It's sciencefiction, and the synopsis sounds interesting.  Anyone ever seen this and know how good or bad it was.  How many movies are there and are they available on DVD or not?  What was the series like.  Was it any good.  Should I get these?

"V" was a mini series that ran about three nights with I was a <cough, cough> teenager..... <sigh> a while back.

When I first saw it, I enjoyed it.

Not too many years ago, they re-ran the series and I must admit that as an adult I was not as enamored by it as I had been before.

But you have to understand, when I saw it as a young teen, we did not have all of the fancy computer generated (geez, I suddenly feel very old) effects as we do today.

However, I thought the story idea was good.  It is a little cheesy due to the era it was made, but there were some neat surprises in it.

If I remember correctly, the acting may have had something lacking at times but I think you may enjoy it if you don't compare it with what we have today.

See it for what it is, and when it was filmed.

I would think that if it was out on DVD, they should sell the whole series in one package.

Let me know what you think about it, if you get to see it.

I enjoyed "V" both the first movie and then "V: The Final Battle". Agreed that it was "cheesy" (the ending was to be sure) and the spin off TV series was very forgetable.

The DVD's are worth a rent if you are looking for some good guy vs bad guy sci-fi.

The special effects have come a long way when you look at current efforts aka Matrix.

"Mouse-y, Mouse-y!"   ;D

Heheh, I read an interview with the one actress who ate several of the "mice".  Seems they were made of sugar.  She had a strict diet, no sugar etc.  The idea of eating the fake mouse didn't gross her out.  It was all the sugar.

The main thing I remember about it was that it had Robert Englund before he became Freddie Krueger.

"V" and V:The Final Battle have the basic editions already out.  I know, my wife and I have watched them at least 5 times already...

The episodes are made-for-TV movies, something like 1 1/2 hours each episode.

After the success of the first 2-parter, they went on with another 3-parter, which in turn was set up to launch a cheap-o TV series...

I also vaguely recall the cast was one of those "fairly famous personage" listings.  The lead male was the Beastmaster, Freddy was in it (I think he had one or 2 movies out before V), Michael Ironsides was brought in for the second part, and I'm sure a lot of the cast was already stars in their own rights...

The special effects were beautiful for their times, and still not the worst I've seen...

If I were you, I'd recommend definitely getting the first part, get the second part if you don't mind some campiness, stay away from the TV series unless you're a real fan of V...

Amen. I also remember they even did a comic book series of "V" for a while.
