This is most definately the loss of a modern-day hero, folks. For 50 years, this has been the man you called when nobody else could do the job...
I think these two lines say it all:
His daring and his reputation for having never met a blowout he couldn't cap earned him the nickname "Hellfighter." In inspired the title of a 1968 movie based on Adair's life, "The Hellfighters," in which John Wayne played him.
"That's one of the best honors in the world: To have The Duke play you in a movie," Adair said.
and
"I've done made a deal with the devil," Adair said. "He said he's going to give me an air-conditioned place when I go down there, if I go there, so I won't put all the fires out."
If ever there was a man who'd go to Hell just to see if he could douse the pilot light, Red Adair would have been it.

Ive heard of that man,I've never seen his balls, but I bet they are BIG ones.

He's abit of a Legend even with my Old Firefighter Buddy's. Thank Goodness when I was a Volunteer, We never had to Deal with the Immence Blazes he did.

One of my all time favorite movies"Hell Fighters" with the Duke...Red was a consultant for the film !

Ponders the money and the danger in that line of fire fighting, that aint a dumpter fire, ive seen viddys of those fires, like 6 stories high,shooting stright up.
has anyone here seen a oil fire like that for real? Mushys a oil guy, I bet he might have seen one.

It was not an oil fire, but I have been to one like that. It started about 6PM on a Saturday night from a lightning strike. We got it out on Tuesday night with several million gallions of water later. Also 20 firetrucks and 2 D8's assisted. The fire was at a junkyard in 6 acres of tires stacked 30' in the air. We had enough fire shooting in the air that Westover AFB had to reroute aircraft in the landing pattern from the severe turbulence.

Good God man, Scary stuff That kind of Fire. Given a strong wind, It has the potential of being Hotter then a Forest Fire. able to Jump in a Populated area also would be scary.
Most of what I did was Wildfires in a Very small part of Oklahoma, But one like that could Cause Massive loss of Life, If not countered Immediatly.
