I personally "Dont give a rats ass" (quote from Scott Bruno about SFB) what other video, board, fantasy football or bedroom games, etc you people all play.
Im not sure about this irrational hatred of Eve Im seeing more and more of (or is it Fear?) but its time to face reality.
SFC, as much as I love it, isnt the only game on my shelf. If Im no longer going to be able to come to these boards without having the fact that I am DARING to actually play another video game shoved up my ass I guess I will just STOP coming to these boards and get my news from the SFC2.net and more specifically FPF fleet rooms. Wait, might not be able to do that, members of the FPF are lobbing salvos at us Eve players now as well. Maybe Ill just have to drop the dyna period and play SFC in single player where no one can F3ck with me about what other games are on my HD.
Im not gonna make another long explantation post here, read my post on pg1 of CR's "Whats next? And when?" post if you actually give a sh#t.
And you all wonder WHY people are leaving this game in droves, thats the funny part.

Personally ,(in these forums anyways) I've always read the "Eve" comments as joking.
-Some people are completely against the idea of pay for play games, but that's against all of them
not just Eve.Personally I don't think there's anything wrong with them. I was one of the original EQ players, played it for a while but finnally got fed up with the fact that only those people that seemed to have unlimited playing time really got anywhere. Recently they've added more "casual" content, but the game is still designed for those who have the best gear and are in the biggest raids.
That's not to say EVE will be the same, I think other game companied have looked at EQ's problems and tried to set someting up to rectify them.
Personally I don't think it can work, as a games base support comes from the long term players that will keep demanding additional materials and challenges that will put them far out of the reach of the average new player. (Holy run on sentences)
But of course nothing says you have to play EVE forever either so.
I suspect (and this may be way off base) that the idea that there is some sort of anti-Eve sentiment floating
around is pushed by the same people that claimed there was an anti-SSCF feeling in these forums.
(And when I say these forums I mean the D2 ones, I barely ever read anything else here)

A quick search of EVE posts (I admit I didn't read all of them) doesn't really show any hatred, (and way less fear) of EVE. Almost everytime someone bashes EVE they use the "why would I pay to play" line.
Get off the soapbox ( do people still use soapboxs btw?).
Quit whining- if you want to play Eve go play Eve, if you want to play Eve and KCW then do so. ( It'll be fun to kill you)
If you want to cover yourself with alcohol and set yourself on fire then go for it,
(I'd seriously recomend against the last one, but barely anyone ever listens to me so.....)

As far as I know, I'm the only one who has made comments about pay to play in the FPF. Those comments are in regard to all pay to play games, except for those specifically stated as such (see my response in the other thread). My views, of course, do not represent the views of my fleet mates, these boards, or anyone else. I view this discussion as academic only and bares no impact on your membership, AJTK, as a valued FPF member, or as a valued contributor to these boards, irrespective of what games you choose to play.

Alright, now your making me feel bad for poppin off tracy, I apologize to you, as I did indirectly point at you.
However, it does add up when every time I come here I see posts in one way or the other attacking Eve or the peeps that play it. Im not the type to bottle things up once they reach the point of actually pissing me off.

Hmm, perhaps a good idea would be for the moderators to make ANY mention of Eve (An O/T subject) require that the post/threads in question be put into the OT forums. That would avoid all this. And as I dont go to the OT forums, I wouldnt have to read anti-Eve remarks in a thread asking about future SFC servers.

AJTK, I think you are way over reacting. I don't see any hate or fear. Nor do I think any one cares all that much if you play Eve. You may be projecting your own feelings on others. I for one intend on trying Eve at some point when time allows, have even downloaded it already.

I agree. Everyone knows I go nuts over this game, but did you also know I left this game for about 6 months to play StarWars Galactic BattleGrounds? We're not binary, folks. Ya can play any game you want. The only thing I think pisses off people in this forum, is when someone goes trolling in the dyneverse.net Starfleet command forums for EVE players. That's a little OTT, don't ya think?

Bah...I read the post you referred to and they didn't say anything that bad. Heck most of us play a lot of games outside of SFC. Mature adults ignore silly ramblings and have thick enough skin to care less about what other people think or say about their hobbies / interests.

With regard to Eve or any other game for that matter. It is not the game it self that concerns me .. it IS the FORMAT !! That being pay to PLAY. I'm NOT about to put a coin slot on my PC as in an arcade ... ( which is about what this pay to play concept comes down to).
I have heard that this Eve is very stable even with litterally hundreds on it. That tells me that there is a soft ware issue here that could help on line gaming in general.
I am not against EVE .. but I am dead set against the pay and pay ... pay and pay ... then pay some more ... then pay still again..
BTW... most of what we do here .. modding andding new and better models .. new missions .. that would be gone !! All of the best that this community has to offer ... the works of Tracy G .. the ships from WZ, Azel, and of course the legends in the past (ie P81) would come to an end !! I'm sorry sir ... that just seem a bit too cut-n-dried for my tastes.
If ya stop and think about it .. there have been litterally thousands of man hour poured into this community over the last few years to keep it going. All of that time has been donated by those who love the game and the its genre.
I just think that some how we will lose a very valuable asset if we loose this part of the community.
Again .. please understand this is not a rant aimed at you or other games.

I am personally concerned about this new idea that seems to be spreading like wild fire .. "pay to play" with nothing to show when you go !
I leave ya with this thought to consider please : Some of us have had the OP game for well over 2 years ... at just $5 a month that would be considerably more than $50 ..... and what then of all of the talented people who have shared so much with us as a community??

I think the issue is not Eve per se, but the SSCF leaving the game in general. It has caused balance problems on our last 2 servers and needs to be rectified going forward (one way or another).

EVE Bashing
I didn't read the posts that way at all (psst, I play eve now and enjoy it). What I did read were jokes (i.e. Chuut's initial post) and some focus on the issue (i.e. 762's post about the need to keep up w/ the current player base preferences in a dyna and Tracey's points about the disadvantages of P2P).
Pay to Play
I have zero problems with the concept. If the game sux, then no one is going to pay and it will die (Earth & Beyond for example ... a full-cost game that stunk).
Seems pretty simple to me. And the concept sounds good to -- your game stinks, no one shows, you lose money & fold. Your game is good, people keep coming back, you make money.
Eve cost me $19 for a month of play. If I don't like it, or get bored, then I'll drop it. Most folks tried the free 14 day (or was it 15?) trial membership. A full load of the exe. If after that they didn't like it, they could pass on it - shoot it was free; if they liked it, they could renew. Heck, I've got a bunch of s/w crap that I spent $30 - $50 on that I didn't even get 10 hours of good gaming on. My rule-of-thumb (and, btw, the industry's too*) is 50 hours of enjoyment is worth a $30-$40 game.
"Bah", you may say, "why should we settle for $40 for 40 hours of gaming?" Good point. Of course, I also pay about $30 for a round of golf (includes lost golf balls) that gives me 3.5 hours of enjoyment. I'll pay $7 for a 2 hour movie. I'll pay way-the-frig too much for some tickets to a game that will give me 2-4 hours of enjoyment (and 2 hours of traffic frustration). I just don't see why P2P is that bad.
No one is mandating P2P.
And, I haven't seen anyone trying to mandate playing SFC:OP.
Not really sure what all the hub-bub is about.

Bearslayer .. I hate to disagree bud .. but there is a huge difference ! One deals with the aspect of interpretation of elements inside of the game... the other deals with not getting a game at all when you fork over the cash.
In the game of golf you are paying for the privilege of using their equipment and facilities ... etc .. A movie is exactly that .. entertainment.
If we follow that thought to its end ... then the games and other facets of it drop from a hobby .. to simple entertainment.
At any rate.. just my own 2 cents worth.

I argued on the Eve forums about a year ago about the price and cost of service, but can't find it now, just as well... I think Green said it well - either you like it and pay or don't - simple.

I tend to agree with Tracey's comments regarding Pay to Play, but then again I'm a college student and without a Credit card as well so that could have something to do with it. Then too I'm highly demanding of my computer games and will play games for far longer then an average person would, as well as come back to my older games every few months, something that wouldn't necessarily be possible with these pay to play games.
For me, Pay to Play would just not be cost effective.
As Far as EVE bashing goes, I don't see any, just some jokes made by the known jokesters such as Chuut

1. SFC players are a diverse crowd, and while we all play many different games, we all carry a love for SFC.
2. Many SFC players are very passionate about their feelings.
3. Some signatures may not be totally appropriate for these forums, and while we all are adults and understand and appreciate art we must also set a higher standard than other sites to remain true to our Mission.

1 and 2 I agree with, 3 I don't my standards might not be the same as yours but does that make either one of them "higher". Just own up and say that you didn't feel that it was appropriate and leave measuring of standards to those on political and religious soapboxes. Its your forum and you can allow and disallow as you please, but to attribute it to "higher standards" is kinda insulting IMHO.
