Title: A word to the US Veterans
Post by: Capt. Mike on September 14, 2004, 04:58:53 pm
Got this in an e-mail today, official from the USAF:

Subject: National Personnel Record Center

ALCON,

The National Personnel Record Center that is responsible for maintaining archives of VA military records when member separates or retirees, is automating the storage and management of the military records system.  Upon completion, the plan is to destroy the hard copies of the records unless requested by the veteran or a deceased veteran's family to send records to the requestor.

If a veteran or member of the deceased veteran's family wish to request VA records be sent to them instead of being destroyed, he/she can make a request by mail to:

National Personnel Records Center
Military Personnel Records
9700 Page Ave.
St. Louis, MO 63132-5100

or:

Make the request online at:

http://vetrecs.archives.gov/
When you submit your request online, a signature form downloadable from the site can be sent to you for completion and submission.  The National Personnel Records Center will then send you an e-mail acknowledging your request.

So I guess those of us who want hard records (usually a good thing to have) will have to write for them..

Fore warned is Fore armed

Have a good day, and may tomorrow be better

Mike

Glad to be of service.  This is the kind of thing that gets buried on page 5 of the Living section...it should be right out there for all to see.

Thanks Mike!! This is really good to know.
I honestly don't have much faith in Government record keeping as is. Now they are not going to keep the originals? ::)

I wonder what genius thought this one up?

Thanks, forwarded that to my Father overseas. I'm sure he knows a host of people who'll appreciate it.
