Games that i'll never forget:
SFC and it's companions, obviously. A space navy simulator that doesn't require a joystick and all that implies is a plus.
RPGs such as Septerra Core, Gothic, Morrowind and when i'm really feeling odd, Final Fantasy. Of them all Gothic and Morrowind paint the best environments, Core gives the best yarn and Final Fantasy... uh... nostalgia I guess. Played arcanum as well, but the infinity engine that's for baldur's gate/icewind dale/fallout and the generation of it that made arcanum breathe are generally too clunky for my tastes.
Emulator based RPGs such as Sieken Densetsu 3, and Secret of Mana for reason both being that they're games of fond childhood memory and contain good lessons concerning gameplay.
The old console RPG-strategy games, such as Jutei Senki, Front Mission, Tactics Ogre, Shining Force 1 and 2, Fire Emblem, and many others. Old favorites that are played over, and over, and over, and, well, you get the idea.
Shin Megami Tensei is a favorite for story and atmosphere; A very intresting mixture of modern/nuclear holocaust fiction, religion and magic. Not for everyone though, as its religious view is not particularly eurocentric.
Strategy games, such as Simcity 3K, 1602 AD, and my latest aquisition, Port Royale. The best strategy game ever made is still, however, Master Of Magic.
Dungeon Siege is a great timewaster, and has effectively replaced the solitare slot in my head. Mindless, but very nice visuals. An editor on par with Morrowind, (something I see as a benchmark for all future games) makes it very intresting to tinker with.
And last of all, Archon Ultra, the absolute last say in tactical 'thinking' games. Flawlessly balanced, yet still requiring some thumb skills to make it to a win.

I have that game for playstation, I still play it , I hate when the aliens toss a greande and wipe half my sqaud out :(
-
SFC, of course! I think I've spent more time with that computer game than with all others -- ever! -- combined.
Other games I still play from time to time, years after their release:
1) Romance of the Three Kingdoms, III
2) Birth of the Federation
3) Civilization I
4) Alpha Centauri
I think I'd still play Red Baron and Sid Meir's Pirates! if I could, but my only copies are from my Mac days, so I have nothing to run them on now.

The mind control bad guys were my pet peeve. I never figured out how to counter them effectively. I always loved it when they'd stand next to the gas pumps. :) Xcom 2 was a rip off, it was the same game with different graphics.

Can't help with Red Baron, though I did play that game once, but Pirates! has a lot in common with Age of Sail 2: Privateer's Bounty and Port Royale.
Privateer's Bounty is primarily a ship to ship game, with little economy or strategy outside the next battle, though it is as easily as complex as Orion Pirates is in its niche. Port Royale is a supremely complicated Carribean Wooden ship age simulation, where one can try Piracy, Buccaneering, or even Honest Trading (including building your very own businesses), but you lose some tactical complication for it. Remisicent of Uncharted Waters: New Horizions (if you play Super Nintendo Games).

Just pulled out my Atari 800..loaded M.U.L.E. and had a blast...then put in Alternate Reality...it's old, kinda hoaky, but still fun...it's not the graphics, it's the mission, the questions, the answers...
Too bad AR was never translated to the PC and all the adventures completed...
Mike
-
I should try to hook up my old 800 again...I'd love to play Colonial Conquest, Imperium Galacticum and Star Raiders again... :)
-
Hmmm, lets see...
SFC 1 & 2 (I've never quite played a game as long as these two...fantastic)
Quake 3 & UT Classic (I was pretty good at 'em, actually won my GSA subscription playing Q3)
IL-2 Sturmovik (I don't play it often, but a damn fine simulation)
Transport Tycoon (I think it was the first strategy game I played...can't wait for Sawyer to release Locomotion)
Railroad Tycoon 2 & 3 (I love trains...one of the few games I've finished)
Classic Console Games (NES & SNES stuff...old school RPG's like FF3, and side scrollers)
-
And Dont forget Donkey Kong for NES :)

You seem to like Star Wars games and city building/civilization strategy games. Well, overall, it doesn't explain Sims 2, but covers about everything else.
I have so many games that I like, but recently, unfortanately, because of work, I have a choice of coming here or playing games, and overall I've been here instead...
-
My list:
Baldur's Gate 2
(I'd put BG 1 on my list if could get it work on XP SP2)
Railroad Tycoon 2
Civilization 2 Multiplayer Gold
SFC OP
Spaceward Ho!
And my number 1 time sink - Neverwinter Nights
Games that this thread have caused me to contemplate:
Ice Wind Dale
Close Combat 2, 3 & 4
The World at War Series from Atomic Games
(Utah Beach, Gold Sword & Juno, Velikye Luki, Stalingrad, Market Garden, America Invades)
Hey, I could dust off one of my old Macs and play the D&D gold box games again.
Yes, I'll be well on my way to divorce soon. Thanks a lot...
-
Hmm, I have BG1 and it seems to work. I have it with TotSC and with the latest patches...I also upgraded the comp I'm on with SP2 recently. Tried it just now to see if it would work (all the way to playing a little in Candlekeep). Not certain if any of that will help you to get it working or not though.
Make sure that if you updated your drivers via Microsoft, you go and get the actual drivers from the companies, MS seems to have some problems with the drivers they distribute for videocards in their SP2 from what I understand.
Hopefully you can get the grand game of BG to work again!

I haven't worked on it too seriously as yet. I am replaying BG2 at the moment, so that will keep me busy for a while.
-
Ah, yes, before I started working I was working on BG2...had made it to the point in ToB where I just defeated the Firegiant. Tough battle that...his followers kept spawning in...lost 3 party members, but luckily Viconia survived...
-
Hmm... lessee here...
Command and Conquer...all but Red Alert 2, I left those CDs back in michigan and the burned copies I had of them didnt work well...
Starcraft...not as much anymore...but when we have a LAN party Starcraft is the first game mentioned
Civ III...this is a big one for me...no matter how many times I cuss the computer out for cheating.."I had a fricking Elite Cavalry...your telling me that I cant kill a fricking Regular Warrior!"
Starfleet Command Orion Pirates, loved this game since I got it, and whats better...I dont have to change the CD to play it!
Starfleet Command III, got real good after the "Make It So" add on...no more need for the CD!
Of course Tecmo Super Bowl, Super Mario Bros, Super Mario Bros 3, and Final Fantasy (NES), are great now that I got that ol thing working again.
Last but certainly not least...I seem to have a Paths of Glory (TableTopGame) itch over the last few days...I need someone to play that with here soon...
*Edit* nearly forgot X-wing vs TIE Fighter
-
Right now, at college, i've been playing...
Doome 3
Splinter Cell 2: Pandora Tomorrow
The Sims 2
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic
I think thats about it, at least, until I bring my HOTAS throttle and stick here, then I'll be playing Comanche 4 and such.
-

Well, The Sims 2 is a game my nephew and his girlfriend wanted, and I got stuck with the job of evaluating it. I've wasted a good 30 hours getting my sim some a..er, making sure he's getting everything he needs.... :D
Ahem... nephew is not getting this one...
-
SFC:OP - single player mostly, dial up hurts when I try to play on the dynaverse, I get sick of hanging every third mission or so and having to bleeping re-boot. Great game when I first got it, still play it!
Madden 2005 - Just got it and I still love it. Madden is a love/hate relationship with the game.
Yu-Gi-Oh - The Power Of Chaos, both Joey and the Kaiba expansions but can't find the Yugi main program anywhere recently.
-
SFC, EAW, OP (I only play offline now).
Games you bought but wish you hadnt (you have to still own them though)
Starship Creator-OMG that thing ******! Yes, I still have a copy of it laying around here somewhere. :-[
-
I'm a packrat, I NEVER throw away my old games. I still have the first CD-Rom version of where in the world is carmen san diego.
God that game is fun as hell with friends when you're all drunk and callin some other non-drunk friend at 2am askin em where in the hell is Vatican City?
-
Klingon Academy
Ah, so I am not the only one in the world that owns that game! And a fine game, I might say. A pity not more games are made with such depth as it was.
My game addicts? Geeze, how to choose...
Starcraft (+ exp), naturally.
Warcraft 3 (+exp) also.
MechWarrior 4 (+exp), absolutely.
Halo I enjoyed quite a bit.
Enigma: Rising Tide (A W.W. II naval sim) won't let me out of it's grasp.
Operation Flashpoint (+exp) brough me endless amusement.
Command and Conquer Generals was fun. Wish it had an naval element, plus more super units.
KOTOR is one of the few games I played several times over. Loved it.
Metal Gear Solid is perhaps my favorite game ever. (loved it as much as I hated it's sequel)
Final Fantasy 7, 9, and Tactics.
A semi-random sample. I have enjoy a somewhat greater number of games than this, but these are ones I enjoyed more than usual. I would say, however, that Starcraft, MGS, and FF7 are the games I truely obsessed over, as they were my first 'loves', so to speak, and what converted me to gaming.

Such a neat concept they butchered.

I am addicted to modding SFC3 more than actually playing it.
Haven't played any of these for a while but they all held my interest for 6 months or more.
Combat Flight Simulator -kept seeing how far I could get before I got killed. Never continued was I got shot down, always started over hehe Then at 1 point I had like 600 planes added in.
Gettysburg-and Antietam. If the Confederates can take the high ground on day 1 they take the battle.
StarCraft-I created insane maps for this game that took 12 hours to play. lol
-
Add another game to My List. Ferrit got me a copy of Crimson Skys, and that Game Rocks.
