Hi,
It started by wanting to leave something to the SFC community ... with all the various new shiplists out for OP (OPPLUS, UAW, WGL, private clans), why not make an SFC:OP "NT Ship Guide" which so many people used in EAW?
I wrote a shiplist.txt parser and can produce useful html tables from it. Still testing a few algorithms for a fleet's best ship at each BPV. These html tables could use graphics (race flags) and additional spicing in the form of a details page for every ship listing its shiplist.txt and computable attributes. (The raw tables with some badly computed values can be found at http://birdofprey.net/sfc/tmp -- and ShipEdit's wonderful PDF instructions will greatly aid in fixing the errors).
But to make it pretty, it does needs graphics. It would be ideal to use the same graphics found in-game during ship selection -- the hull type UI and weapons icons mounted on their proper mod-file specified hardpoints.
I'd like to ask someone for permission to use the UI graphics but have no idea who to ask. These graphics are hiding in sprites.q3 -- but there are also the .se files from ShipEdit which may contain what I'm looking for.
Who and where should I contact to ask for permission to use some of these graphics? Taldren? Interplay? ShipEdit's authors?
If there is no one to ask, how wrong would it be to extract the graphics from sprites.q3? This is doable, I've studied the file now for 4 days straight and see it..... but alas, stealing is wrong and I want to help maintain social trust levels because, indeed, the world is what we make it....
Best Regards,
Joey Kahn

I would ask an Admin. here PM Tracey G. or Doggmatrix they would be the best ot talk to or you could PM KBF Crim and he could see what he could do for you for you .I hope this helps.

Are you saying you cracked open the sprite file? In any case the sprite file belongs to Quicksilver.

JoeyKahn... take a look at the 'Any News on the Source Code' thread. Quicksilver is at least 'in-contact' with the community to allow this kind of editing/modding.
Which we would ALL be thankful for!

I'm guessing he's more looking for permission to screengrab the UI for the design. Vessel Library clone, I imagine?
-
No he literally means decompress the q3 file and take out the image.. no screenshots.

Very good to hear if you really have found a way.
Go to the source code thread and read up.
