Federation Starship...Early to Mid Lost Era, that would be classified as a Long Range Exploration vessel. Anyone?
-
If it's canon you be talking about it'd be either the Ambassador or the Constellation, I cannae be bothered to think of any obscure ships thate are only mentioned in dialogue as explorers, though I think the Korolev is also one from that period.
-
Actually It would be one of the obscure ones...The ones that get all the glamor are the explorers. This one would be a charter. Its mission profile would be to go out and chart the sectors for the Ambassadors and the Constellations to explore. It would be designed to operate away from supply for several years, and would be able to scan at extreme ranges. A typical mission I would see it as having would be:
Depart Deep Space 5
Chart Sectors 115 and 125
Chart Sectors 116 and 126
Explore system 116-26 (since it happened to be on its way)
Chart Sectors 117 and 127
Chart Sectors 137 and 147
Chart Sectors 136 and 146
Chart Sectors 135 and 145
Explore system 145-03
Return Deep Space 5 (Total elapsed mission time five to seven years)

May I recommend John Payne's TMP Era explorer? It comes in two versions:
Kreeargh's version

Cleeve's older version:

I hope this helps.

You could also use the Niagara Class for this mission...I have one, plus other Lost Era ships on my site...

Okay, i dont think its too pretty - in fact, i think its one of the ugliest ships ive ever bashed.

this would be good for an long range Explorer but why has it those Deuterium containers atached
-
This was my answer to something i read related to SFB where the Feds and Klingons sent a ship to the Andromeda galaxy via the Rapid Transit Network.
This ship was intended to be Multi-Generational and completely independant. Most of those arent deuterium tanks, but supply tanks.
The top levls on both pods are botanical farms
the next few are living quarters and rec-facilities.
the next few are machine shops, etc
then storage
(i never liked the Replicator system, it seems like such a cop-out)

Odd but a definite work of art there, Fury, love the backstory about it too.

You think it's ugly? I really like it. There are a lot of missions you could assign to a ship like this.
-
Ooh, I like, though I've never been keen on those stark dark blue and white textures that are awfully popular for Fed ships atm.
-
My favorite mode to use for an explorer is the Churchill by Anarion

its because in SFC 1 and 2 the ships are darker in game then they are in the veiwer. The darker the textures the darker the ship, the whiter the textures the lighter the ship. If you have any type of graphic program the colour changes are easily done, as well as darking the over white colour as well. In SFC 3 the model shading is done differently and can be too bright in BC when the white versions are ported over they are too bright in my opinion, but since I don't play BC it really is not a problem.
-
Hmm, still I find they look a bit like physical-model ships instead of just ships, ingame that is, they just seem too stark IMO.

Taking cannon ships into consideration it would be Renaissance class Cruiser. She's been built of Ambassador's parts but her nacelle and hull configuration mostly resembles Intrepid. :)
It was also said that Steamrunner and Saber classes comes from this time period you have mentioned... (also Bradbury and Korolev classes - but Korolev is later design as well and nothing more is known about Korolev) :)
BTW I'm still translating Klingons for you from my mother language into English. I'll have teir personalities soon. ;) (Maybe tommorow or max two days after ;) )
-
It's canon ;)
The Steamrunner and the Sabre are warships, not explorers, also they are designs from the 2360s at the very earliest and so are not around yet by the Lost Era.
I know this is only the conjectural history from the ASDB site but their designs for unseen ships are very cool, they did the TOS Antares that Lord Schtupp was doing ages ago but never finished. In their version at least, not sure if they got facts from the show but:
First commissioned 2320
The Korolev Class is a widely-used, yet seldom-seen starship. Production was in full swing in 2330, as a smaller counterpart to the still-new Ambassador Class. A number of Korolevs saw their operational lives abruptly terminated in the Borg incursion of 2367, at the Battle of Wolf 359. Though most have been refit, and can more than hold their own, recent years have seen them largely assigned to the Federation's territory in Beta Quadrant.
So one of these could very nicely fill the role for that era, plus their design looks very nifty (that means good)
http://www.trekships.org/korolev-redesign-side.jpg
Tragically there's only this view of the design at the moment. I think they also did the Ambassador-esque Rennaisance design, without resorting to a really crappy kitbash like the one I saw on shipschematics.

I Remember this one.
did you ever release all of the other ships you had done?
-
Furyofaseraph, where can I get the ship. I think it is kind of cool.
-
yup, it's ugly alright, but it'd make a great fed colony ship. You should add different pod textures that have those colony mission patches on them instead of just a starfleet logo.

I was talking about that Exelsior kitbash colony ship.
