...yet so far.
Thanks you guys who helped me install SFC OP on my new Windows XP 'puter. The game runs, but there is a problem. Fo rsome reason all the mouse "clicking" commands work just fine. I can also zoom in and out using the "+" and "-" eys And I can use th e"Page Up" and "Page Down" buttons to shift angles. But none of the other keys work, including the letter commands and "F1" through "F12" keys.
Any idea what's happening here?
Thanks for the help in advance!

Hehe. Famous old problem. If you drop to desktop and come back in while viewing the shipyards, you will get your keyes back.
There is a different .exe target that eliminates this problem. I forget which. Someone else will know here. It works, and once it does, its not a worry. And dont worry, about everyone has been plagued by this once before till they fixed it. ;)
-
Sorry Dizzy, but could you clarify "drop to desktop and come back while viewing shipyards"?
-
Alt-Tab
-
Thanks Core, I'll try Alt-Tab.
-
If alt tab does not work .. use the "windows" key if your board has one... again make SURE you are reviewing a ship in the yard .. other wise it can cause ya to crash !
hope this helps
-
Argh! I leave the computer alone for a while and now it won't even open! Back to the drawing board!
-
dont ever alt tab in mission, u will need to hard boot
-
You know, I remember a time when I had a similar problem...would work sometimes and then wouldn't after getting to work in the 1st place. IIRC, I d/l d Registry Mechanic and ran that...clean up alot of stray bs...worked fine after that. Hope it helps... :-\
-
Yeah I was writing about that alternative .exe file in your previos post :)
-
Hey guys! Thanks for giving the help! This prob is really bugging me! SFC OP is by far my all-time favorite PC game. I really, really would like to have it back.
Sandman--Where would I download a registry mechanic?
-
u just need the proper .exe location. Ask this question in the dyna2 forum and u will get help.
-
Create a new shortcut to "StarFleetOP.exe" and your problems with that should be solved.
-
I'm afraid I did that already. But the problem still persists.
-
did ask the dyna 2 exp forum?
-
Drat - I had the exact same problem and the shortcut thingy worked for me, sorry bud :-\
-
Kaenye any service packs on Xp installed??;)
Try to make the shortcut once more. But remember it should be not from SFCOP.exe but from StarfleetOP.exe
If not you'll have to run the game from her directory by clicking on StarfleetOP.exe :)
-
Hmmm...I think I tried it both ways, trying the shortcut route and the direct way. Don't know why it would be so uncooperate. Is XP that stubborn sometimes?

Go to http://www.pcworld.com...click on Downloads, go to Utilities and should be one of the 1st listings...I get a lot Utilities there. ;D
-
Hey again, Sandman, thanks for the link. Another question through: just which Utilities am I looking for?
-
Try this...a direct link to the d/l page. ;D
http://www.pctools.com/registry-mechanic/?ref=pcw_download
-
Got it. I downloaded the utility and it found something like 167 errors. Probably from all my attempts to get the game going. I had it fix the problems and I tried loading the game. Still no luck. But then I had a moment of inspiration: I found a program in my computer that is geared toward incompatibility problems. I ran it and so far SO FAR mind you, that seems to have fixed the problem. But now I have that minor problem again with the nonfunctional keys. So assuming I get home tonight and SFC OP is still working, I'll fix that minor problem. And just to clarify, I'm supposed to hit the Alt + Tab keys while I'm in the shipyards. Not that part of the game that gives you a tutorial about the Feds, Klingons, etc. but the part of the game where Iwould be choosing my vessels and the enemy vessels which I want to fight, correct?
