Looking for advice here.... Any suggestions on how to speed the game up.... Short of removing all the wonderful mods I've installed, which isn't the point.... The point is it looks great but get more than a handfull of big file size ships going and it really starts to slow down....
PC spec is....
1Ghz PIII
384Mb ram
NVIDIA GeForce 2 MX/MX400 (64Mb Memory)
Lots of shiny 3Mb+ models.......
running at 1280 x 1024 in 16bit colour
I guess I really know the answer, but are there any tweaks I could try out?????

*thinks*
.. I don't know of any, and I've been playing since day 1..

Not with your current PC specs... You would probably need to go to a P IV 1.5 Ghz, 512 Mb Ram or higher, and a GeForece 3 TI 64 or 128 Mb vid card minimum (MX card is their low end card) to get the performance that you are asking for...

I don't know what OS you're running, but www.blackviper.com has services configurations available
for windows to shut down all unneccessary services. This can free up a whole bunch of ram. It Helps
my system.

1) Get more RAM.
2) Press the ] button to turn the game speed up while you play.
-
Create a RAM Drive (if you have enough RAM) and run the game from there.
It wont speed up the game itself but will make file loads quicker.
-
Lower your screen resolution. It's way to high for that video card. I suggest 1024x768 at 16 bit color.

My game runs fine on a quarter of my RAM, but my processor gets tired every few days and runs at half speed.
(BTW: why exactly does the processor slow way down like that? I know it's the processor; EVERYTHING, including the clock and all timers slows way down)
Specs:
400 MHz Celeron
256 MB RAM
ATI Rage video
1280x1024 resolution

Heat...Your CPU is getting too hot...That's why it slows down
