thread keeps locking up my browser
Either something's wrong with the forums or someones sig pics or something is causing a prob
Any suggestions???
Anyone else with this prob??
-
Yeah, my IE and AOL both crash/freeze up with these forums for some reason. I suggest nabbing Mozilla Firefox or a similar alternative since IE's been getting buggier and buggier in general.
-
I've had it happen once too. MYie2 eventualy unfroze it.
-
ok, this forum has crashed explorer several times and now my 3rd party browser f***'s up whenever I try to right click, even to close it. I'll probably need to reinstall but first I am going to see if somehow the forum is transfering something like a virus. I hate firefox..lol

I use IE and Im fine ;)

Well I did have trouble accessing DD's thread, but it appears that I just had to wait a very long time (5-10 min or so) then things started downloading into the page. My IE browser appeared to be locked up during that time. I have a very slow connection and there are many large offsite screen caps in that thread. My first theory is that is was a certain somebody's 394K animated gif sig, then my second theory was that the Right Wing Conspiracy was attempting to infect my browser with Ashcroftware in order to track my visits to Al-Queda and various Japanese porn sites, but as it turns out to that I just needed to be real patient with that particular thread. As far as the general board goes, I havnt had any troubles.

Remember I was having the same problem...then I cleaned out the temp. internet files and it's working fine. ;)

Is Lord Schtupp talking about me? That is a cool animation. Very high quality gif video. I wouldn't mind a nice replacement. Still haven't found one yet.
-
DT- Lol ;D yea but I only suspected that as the moderator guy said to turn off sigs to solve the problem, but that wasnt it. It was them offsite links I tell ya...
-
i turned off viewing sigs and now i dont have any trouble at all
-
It has started playing up on me too.... I went into the child boards and it froze up.... now occasionaly it freezes up in here 2 ;D
-
Hmmm ... sounds like I need to redo my sig for this forum then... I have noticed that the ones with "action" to them seem to cause more trouble than those that are simply still picts ....
Though I'm kinda fond of this last one I created (especially for an old fart like me) ... but I have made some observations the last few days .. and the sigs that have any sort of animation ... ANY WHERE in the sig or the little icon on the left will cause a problem.
Sorry guys .. I did not realize at the time it could have this sort of impact. I'm still at work right now ... but if ya will give me to later this PM .. it will be corrected.
thanks

Yes ths forums acting up Im back. ;D
-
BTW... if ya try that thread by DD ... it will still lock ya up big time (at least it did for me last night on my phone-age dial-up !
-
there are 2 or 3 threads that are locking up my browser every time. weird/annoying.

Is this new sig giving anyone any trouble .. I kept it down to a very simpe small size.. (I think it was only 72kb in the jpg file).
The other thing might be band width that some of the LARGER sigs might be using ( not sure here .. I'm not too much of an expert on that particular subject)
-
Its not the sigs...I just switched to FireFox...and that's still giving my laptop problems...My desktop is fine...but laptop...struggling
-
#1 Can someone post links to the threads that are giving the most problems.
#2 RE the laptop, can you check how much memory FireFox is eating up.
If your viewing threads with large numbers of big images i suspect that it is eating up most or at least a large portion of the avaliable memory, i know my firefox sits arround 100Mb memory usage with 3 tabs open.
-
It is most of them...I cannot really list them as my veiwer locks up...but I donot multi tab I only open on window when looking on my laptop

It works fine for me at home with Mozilla, AMD Athlon 64, and a cable modem connection.
It chokes like for you guys at work with IE, older Pentium IV, and either a T1 or T3. So, it could be IE in addition to Firefox along with high traffic.
-
Mozilla and Firefox work fine by me.
-
IE, Firefox and Opera work fine for me.
If you go to the message index, just right click on the thread title and copy the link.

If you ask me, I suggest Netscape's browser. For years they had been reliable, especially since last year with the option of blocking popups incorporated into the browser.
