Well, I know it's built on the Command & Conquer engine.. so decide if you like that one. I'd much prefer something on the Total War engine, so I am still debating this one.. maybe if they release a demo.

Okay, I bought this because I couldn't stand the suspense any more. This NOT Total War: Middle Earth. It plays much more like Warcraft or Command & Conquer than it does a true minature-simulator.
Basically, you move pieces on the map and a battle ensures. You go to the battle and you build your own encampment while destroying the enemy encampment. It very, very much reminds me of Warcraft, which is fine. I would have prefered something where the overall army formation is a factor, and where the movement on the campaign map was more open (I'd like to fight the northern battles that are hinted at near Dale and the Lonely Mountain). The engine and the feel that the campaign is somewhat linear are my main beefs.
Regardless, if you are a Warcraft fan, or a Tolkien fan, you'll probably like it. I give it 3 stars out of 5.

IGN's review of the game - http://pc.ign.com/articles/570/570777p1.html
They gave it an 8.3 I believe.
