Not to sound mean or anything disrespectful, but that area is high in oil production. I wonder if it will impact prices tomorrow? I used to know a woman from Indonesia who worked on the oil rigs as an engineer. I'm sure the oil rigs that got slammed did not fare so well. Hurricanes and Typhoons are one thing, but a massive tidal wave? I also wonder if any cruise ships were sailing at the time, much less other transports. I wish I was a computer guru, I'd simulate the tidal waves hitting a Suezmax tanker at different angles and see how it fares.

I'm far from an expert in how fluids work, but would there be a large wave out at sea? I thought the reason the waves grew was that when the shock wave got closer to shore it was compacted by the rising sea bed. Or something like that.
Personally I won't mind a bit of a higher gas prices (they are high already), but 10,000 dead or more is tragic. :(

SRaek is correct, the waves only grow as they approach shore. It is an unfortunate fact that when they have a disaster in that part of the world that it happens on an almost biblical scale.
