Hehe and every time i look at it i see a guppy fish ;D I had to show you guys this just for some laughs.
Not a particularly serious one, i saw a ship Thu11 did a while back and used a very similar layout while practising some techniques in 'Max...surprisingly it almost works, so i finished it as a carrier-concept. It actually looks ok in-game :o I have a regular hulled completely normal Excelsior version with the "1 and 2" bay doors added as well, makes a good strike carrier. Dunno if i will release them, but they are certainly interesting.

I lie it... one suggestion though, the inside scoop textures dont look right on the top... you gonna change that? the bit that slides back from the bays? it looks spot on on the bottom, just not right on top!!
Keep us posted :)
-
Hmm not sure what bit ya mean, the top and bottom is identically cloned...so in theory it should be the same top and bottom except for the numbers on the bays...but stick an arrow on the pic showing me exactly where ya mean and i'll make sure i got it right (knowing me i didnt lol)
EDIT: i'll be back tonight, so dont think im ignoring you if i dont answer straight away ;)

That is one ugly design, but nice modeling job. I D/L oddities, so I hope it gets posted. ;) It seems vaguely familiar tho.

;) http://www.dynaverse.net/forum/index.php/topic,163333860.0.html <--- i did my 'bash from scratch after seeing this one, taught me some useful stuff about "flipping normals" and mirroring/welding mesh without too much leftover baggage.
Ahhh i see what ya mean Stewie...i agree, i was considering putting some extra details or superstructure there myself, but never really took the design serious enough to get around to anything. The impulse engines there will get some decent smoothing to blend in better though when i do the LODs etc, so i may try something at the same time.

ROFL that is exactlly the sort of thing i was thinking myself when i saw it!
Who knows i may put this one out just for a laugh, USS Cannatuna/Guppy Class :D

now, imagine this...do the same thing, but instead for the bottom hull use the Excelsior2 mesh...this way the textures are different and the top/bottom symmetry is distrupted a little bit more.

There is a simmilar bash over at BCU from a while back called USS Bizmarck...diference between this one and that ship is that one has more (modeled) detail on the upper side...
