While keeping tabs on the movement of some things I ordered for the work I'm doing on my house I was startled to watch it follow this round-a-bout trip form Reno to Las Vegas by FedEx.

No ownder shipping rate are on the rise. These guys can get the cost is a part of the miles*(fuel cost)*(cost of wear and tear) worked into their routing software.
Maybe they're using that new Linux-based mapping software... or maybe... MapPoint (http://www.microsoft.com/mappoint/default.mspx) might save their lost butt form losing too much money. (hehehe)

You think that is bad... if it is next day air it goes through Nashville. Period. Always. (At least it did a few years back). So if you sent an over-night package from 105 Main St. Seattle, WA to 107 Main St. Seattle, WA it would go to Nashville then back.
Cool huh....

Be thankful your package didn't end up in the secret FedEx facility in Utah. Our lab lost a package of supplies that unfortunately contained Rad Material signs, so when it broke open in Nashville and the signs fell out the whole package became a hot potatoe. They shuffle such messes off to the Utah facility (likely excuse) for "later" processing. Later in this case being two months later the customer called and our tracking back showed it processing through Nashville for two months. Wonder why we provide contact phone numbers since they never called to ask what was in the package. >:(
