Title: Dunno how these work
Post by: Greenvalv on March 04, 2005, 02:46:21 pm
Would someone mind telling me what the aaStrings.gf and shipdata.sfc do?  And give me the lowdown on how the Chat.gf works.

I know I've fooled around with those files before and produced some desired results, but its been a couple years and I don't remember exactly what I did or was trying to do. Something in regard to correctly adding a custom ship of my own, an F-BBH Federation Heavy Battleship. Purely my own conjectural ship for my own entertainment.

Might want to check with Firesoul, too.  I bet he'd have some input there.

Ok, never mind the aaStrings and the Chat, what does the Shipdata.sfc do?

Shipdata.scf I believe in the default installled version of the game, patched, with no mods is 0 bytes in size.. IE.. it is storing nothing.. however if you save a game configuration of a ship, I believe that the game uses this file to load personal ship settings (saved ships).. even though the saved ships are in an editable list much like the Core and Default files,, the Shipdata.sfc is that the game uses to load the settings in those files.. IE: I think it records the ship save meta data...
