Title: Cordless phone
Post by: NJAntman on May 17, 2005, 09:32:32 pm
Trusty old Uniden 900MHz cordless crapped out. Although I can get a whole replacement from a second hand mail order for about $40, a new set with two handsets and in the 2.4 & 5.8 GHz range goes for about $60.

My question for any of you that own such a system is have you seen any interference with your GHz range computer systems?
My trusty old Athlon runs at 1Ghz and the Uniden 900 MHz never seemed to interfere.

Curious before I buy.

The phone won't interfere with the PC. However if you're running a wireless network with cordless phones in the house, those should be on different frequencies. I run a 2.4ghz LAN AND 2.4 phones, and if someones on the phone signal drops to almost 0.

How do change he frequency of your LAN?  You can't change the phone...

I think the easiest way is to change to a 5ghz cordless phone.  With the phone on a higher frequency, it shouldn't interfer with each other anymore.  You can always give the old phones to someone who could use them.

Precisely. I dont think you CAN change the LAN frequency. If you can, it's not something I'm familiar with.

Thanks for that info. Hadn't even thought of LAN interference although I was considering setting up a network card to run updates for the TiVO (easier to set that up instead of running another phone jack).

Think I'll go with the basic 900MHz cordless, that way if/when I upgrade PC to something over 1 GHz it shouldn't be a problem.
