I'm using Firesouls 4.0 shiplist with SFC OP and having a blast with it, but I have a question. I notice quite a few Scouts are in the Shiplist, I was under the impression that SFC really doesn't portray all of SFB rules and I thought Scout Functions was one of them. So if scout funtions are non-existant in SFC, whats the point of having Scouts in the game? Is there any benefit with them in the 4.0 list?

When playing on a Dynaverse server and you enter a PVP match, you can lose your ship.. it is quite possible that on some servers you are reduced to a FF or even lower, a scout.. and sometimes even a freighter.. it all depends on the server settings...
In normal PVP on GameSpy Arcade, Scouts are not used much except maybe in Battlefest matches or by the AI using CO-OP Ace..
For single Player, it depends on if you end up in one based on how many times the AI kills you and if you have enough Prestige Points to buy a different ship to get out of a scout or freighter..
As for the duty role of a scout, in SFC a scout is just a low end Frig...

Scout functions are not implemented properly in sfc, so scouts are basicly useless outside of haveing something else to blow up.

Someone just told me that scouts in OP can control more drones/missiles then the standard warship. If Scout Channels are implemented in OP, do they at least do this?

A cleverly written script could give all kinds of things in the form of bonus or addition of some kind to a mission spawn to scout vessels only, it just has not been done yet.
When the source code to the client is released, the community "WILL" find a way to incorperate scout channels. I would love to see some, if not all the scout functions implemented. My faves include going "Wild" offensive ECM, Lending ECCM ect. Perhaps SWAC could be implemented as well.
