Hi folks, recently I've had the honor of speaking (on seperate occasions) with 2 people that I held in HIGHEST reguards in the Trek Modelling world. Yes we all exchange praise in the forums ( and rightfully so ). I've only been an active contributor to this wonderful community for about 2 years and i have a long way to go before I would say I'm any good at this.No ego trips here, nothing personal, just the facts. But I was just wondering...........
WHO INSPIRED YOU ?
Since I started this thread i get to go first ;D. And in no particular order they are............
ANDURIL
WICKED ZOMBIE
ATRA-HASIS
LORD BILE
MOONRAKER
p81
AZEL/ATOLM - for his unending imagination
And everyone here who's labors of luv enhance our little Star Trek world.
No ego trips here, nothing personal, just the facts from me to these guys I mentioned. My Inspirations.
I just wanted to take the oportunity to thank each and every one of them for EVERYTHING they have done/or will do, that makes me strive to get better, feel free to experiment, and express my ideas about a subject I grew up loving and still hold dear to this day. So don't be shy let's see who inspired you.
Thanks Guys

Several people actually, but mostly down to three people in the start - Andy "Deemon" Johns primarily, Rick Knox and 9ofNine. In more recent times I've had dealings with many of the best people in their particular fields - Azel/Atolm for his dealings in 2d have given me many ideas and much help with certain designs I've gone through, Howard Day, FractalSponge, Aceman and Andrew J Hodges have given me many of the materials I've used in the rebuilds I've done, and whilst not much inspiration, still deserve a mention.
There are many others including you MP. I can't really think of another member of this community who's managed to collect an archive as large as that, that you currently have.
-
There are many here who do a lot of good work for the community.
That said .. the one person who has helped me to be inspired to get back into designing ships again is unquestionably one person : Azel .
AS you said MP .. there are a lot of really great guys here ... many of whom have helped me in other ways. However, it is his ability to "sketch" and bring to life what is seemingly an endless supply of fresh ideas that prompted me to once again stir that fire of creativity that we once possessed.
BTW... keep watching ... I have a couple of "models" that we will be posting a WIP on soon.

atolm (hey, he got me started)
WZ,
p81
those are the main 3, however there are many others, just to many to list ;)

All the early modelers, plus when Ghost took his site down the first time and there were other problems between sites and what not, So I desided if they can do it so can I. And in case they take their sites down again or stop modeling I could make the ships myself. Which I did the Gorn and some of the Feds.
Need to start back into makeing something, but working 6 days a week dont leave much time for modeling or anything else for that matter.
-
If I had to choose one, I would say Rick Knox. The first site that I found to download ships was Staryards and his and Cleeve's work really inspired me, although I didn't actually get into modeling until later. My Intro to Engineering graphics professor, Dr. Vinson, was also a big inspiration for me. Although he doesn't make starship models, he showed me how to do solid modeling on AutoCAD, and when I was making all sorts of extra solid models for the class, he told me about some 3D graphics classes, that I subsequently signed up for. That's where I learned how to use 3ds max. I also have to add Dr. Hutchinson to the list of people who inspired me because he taught me how to use 3ds max and the first ships I made were for my project in his class last semester.

There have been several modelers for me aswell, but I would say the modeler called "Sbloyed" who made some really net SFB style ships that had a TMP feel. I was amazed how he was able to make such great ships just with Milkshape and wanted to do the same (as I only use Milkshape aswell).

Let's see...P81, WZ45, Ancient Angel, Atrahasis, Anduril...pretty much all the originals. Some day I might be as good as they are, but, 'til then y'all are stuck with what I do now. :P
-
1) Atolm
2) GAFY?
3) Thu11s
-
I would have to say that my initial inspiration was Pneumonic81, then later Khaliban, Wicked Zombie, Moonraker, and I am sure there are a few others.

Deemon, knox1711 (p81 under different name, as far as i know) and everyone on the HWST team :)
-
For me:
To start off:
Hollis J Woods - for his taking the chance and letting me texture one of his meshes, which became my first release.
Darkdrone - the sheer volume of his stuff, plus he got me started on conversions.
Lord Vader - my first real chat-at-me modeller contact
Lord Bile - one of the first to discuss texturing with me.
Captain Starkiller and atticbat - interviewers of modellers who indirectly got me some great tips and tricks.
Pataflafla - one of the best texturers I've ever worked with.. his mastery of PSP is still better than mine. :)
Sandman3D - always a good sounding board
Atolm - a great design mind
p81 and Lord Schtupp - the masters of their eras.. I love working with both of their works. ;)
And finally, all who post here... I constantly get ideas for projects simply from the "I Wish" type comments that will sometimes spring up. "The Doomsday Machine"'s damaged Constellation that I kitbashed came from one of those comments once..
-
Hey Alec, you heard from Pata lately? Oh, and btw, don't be so modest...your texturing blows a lot of stuff out of the water...especially mone, lmao. ;D

You know, I haven't heard from him in a few months... last I heard, I think he was still in Austin. Will have to try getting ahold of him one of these days soon. :)
Oh, and one of the other people I *really* forgot to mention that is an inspiration... Wicked Zombie. I still use one of his and Captain Starkiller's ships (texture modified) as my personal flagship, and have never gotten tired of it to this day. :)

I love my ship, and it's all because of WZ45. :D
-
Oooooo that is a cool ship Alec.

Who Inspired me? Hmmmm. I would have to say it all started with Moonraker, Because he is the one that got me started modelling, and ive had some very pleasent chats, and guidence from him. Then there is Atrahasis, Anduril, Ghost, and Lord Schtupp. For thier insight, and encouragement :D
-
Ohhhh now there is a good question.... originally "Iceman!" then Atrahasis and Wicked Zombie, Lord Schtup and Sandman... soooo many... at the moment CGI inspires me and that is the route im going to take, most of the modellers arnt familiar but their damn good.... I inspire to reach their level. ;)
Good Topic ;D
