Title: Error, some help would be much welcome:
Post by: axisofunity on June 04, 2005, 05:22:04 pm
Unhandled Exception! in Version 1.01 Build 534
SFC3.exe caused an EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION in module d3d8.dll at 001B:03368309

EAX=00000000  EBX=000003C5  ECX=10559F9C  EDX=0003FFC0  ESI=00000400

001B:03368309 (0x00000000 0x00000000 0x00000000 0x00000000) d3d8.dll

Okay, I'm pretty good with computers, but I can't fix this:

1) Fresh install of SFC3
2) Fresh install of ONLY the latest patch (No mini movie patch, dx patch etc)
3) Desktop set to 16bit
4) Visual Themes disabled
5) All possible services stopped through CTRL+DEL.

Game loads into menus, even loads campaign map, but moment you try and load into a battle, it dies.

I've got a P4 2.8GHZ HT
1GB RAM
256MB ATi Radeon XT800 PE
Giga-Byte 8KNXP MB

I've tried everything I can find on the forums to search for, and have reinstalled my graphics card, drivers and so on more than once.

Anyone got any other advice?

:(

Off the top of my head, I'd try Removing DirectX and reinstalling it. If that doesn't work, I'm sure someone with more skills then I will be along to help you out.

Hope this works for you though. BTW, welcome to the boards. I just wish It was not because of a Tech problem you where having. All the same, Take a look around, and feel free to jump into our conversations here. Most of the peeps are Friendly in these parts.

OK. Probably a dumb question (as I'd never claim to be very good at all with computers. lol), but what about a firewall? I've had games act like that because of my firewall before.

:(

Put your desktop back into 32 bit graphics mode..

Next if you have a saved game, delete it.

Next, go into Assets\Scripts folder and delete the *.cache files

Finally make sure you have the correct v534_b patch..

someone tried to upload a hack of the actual patch.. the actual patch can be found in the announcement forum.. 40.5 MB

Make sure it is installer version 534_b

If you are still having problems, make sure to download the patch with Anti-Virus turned off and you patch the game with Anti-Virus turned off.. If you are using AVG Anti-Virus, you may need to uninstall AVG as it is severely bugged on Clickteam installers.. after patching game, AVG can be reinstalled.

Finally what OS are you running and which service package..
also have you run a DXDIAG test on your system DirectX and check the 2nd tab for any DirectX errors?

I would like to report.....

success!

But not through any methods above :(

I reinstalled from fresh and tried all the steps you were kind enough to suggest (even deleting my Anti-Virus) and it still crashed.

I then however in a fit of rage started removing parts of Windows Update patches.... And low and behond removing the .net Framework resulted in the game working fine...

Not sure why, but it doesn't like .net installed?

ps. Thanks for all the help, it was much welcomed, :)
