Title: A badge for every soldier nowadays

Hmmmmm, the combat patch on the sleeve was not enough? On average only 10% of Expert Infantry Badge and Expert Medical Badge applicants pass the tests in the field and on the written exam. We already had a C.I.B. and C.M.B., now I guess everyone in combat wants a badge of some sort. I guess it's ok, kinda hard to have an Expert Supply Badge or Expert Cook Badge, hehehehehe...

Jack the same thing was said in the 80s when the Army introduced The thanks for  coming to the party(service ribbon) ribbion, The Army NCOES ribbons awarded for completing PNCOC,BNCOC,ANCOC, and First Sergeant course, and finally the Army Acheesement medal given out left and right for just being a happy soldier and doing your job.

Give the troops something else to buy and maintain whats the big deal.

I can kind of understand there Sten, I felt kinda naked until I got a thanks for showing up ribbon!

Of course there can be overkill, like after we returned from Desert Storm.  ;D

No kidding... try having a blanket fricnink ARCOM shoot you down for getting a Bronze Star (service) for never loosing a single person/convoy vehicle during the whole war.

That'll piss one off nicely.

Yep.. not a big deal at all.. unlike giving the Ranger's Black Beret's to the entire army.  Some folks saw that as a huge deal.

LIke me... it's spitting in the face of every Ranger who's ever served.

yeah, that was really a bad move on the army's part, IMO. If anything I would have expected a camo beret or something, but not when it is a beret of an elite group who EARNED the right to wear it like the Rangers or SF.

Dudes.... I got the National Defense Ribbon for being in while we were at war with Iraq.

I got nothing for Liberia...

I got a Humanitarian award for Fran in Dade County.

I got THIRTEEN ribbons for being on 2 coast guard cutters between Key West, FL and Haiti during the Haitian debacle of 94.

Add a GCM and that is my 'salad' bar....

At least I missed out on that silly 'hand grenade throwing' ribbon the army gives out....::)

HEY... till I went to Iraq, the 'Ranbow Ribbon' was my only one! :P

Same here J.C.! Just think though, without Iraq we would still get the "Thanks for staying out of trouble for 3 years, here is your good conduct medal" ribbon!  ;) Then there is the "You served your tour in Germany, now here is your "Army Acheesement medal."  ;D

Hades Bear, you racked em up with the Coast Guard! I guess with them being the "forgotten branch" of our military they have to compensate by having more ribbons to put on their uniforms? I can see it now, the "blunt" badge for making a pot bust at sea, or the "kilo" badge for making a cocaine bust at sea.  ;)

What Germany tour... I've missed 3 Germany camps in as many years!

1.) Hadn't gone to Basic yet
2.) was at Basic at the time
3.) had too much AD time that year and the State Dept wouldn't let me go

LOL... no, not that bad... sheesh.... but all the 'important' paper work is in a fire proof box which is inside a plastic box with other paper work which is in a big cardboard box that is part of a pile of boxes in the basement.

I may not even screw with going thru there until I get my permanent housing set up. Unless I really need to that is...

Dang you all have me wondering what my DD214 has for my "Salad Bar"

Pulls out a very faded and stained DD214

National Def Ribbon....... I thought this was "You survived Boot Camp Ribbon" ;D
Good Conduct Medal X4....... What only 4?   Oh I forgot about those two Article 15s I got ;)
Navy Sea Service Deployment Ribbon X 3
Marine Corps Expeditionary Medal...... They didn't know what to give us for Beirut
Vietnam Campaign Ribbon
Combat Action Ribbon
Navy/Marine Unit Commendation
Purple Heart X 2........ I forgot to Duck ::)
Vietnam Wound Medal X 2
Bronze Star........ I still say I got this because I saved 2 LT. Boyd from a fate worse then Death. He wanted to marry one of the Lady's working in one of the Bars outside our camp ;D

Wow Soreyes, how old are you?  ;)

Impressive ribbons, BTW. It's very rare you see Vietnam vets nowadays.

Any ONE of those underlined medals would get you a free beer if you happen to be in L.A.- not sure what to do for someone with all of them. I'd give you the BMP that we had outside our compound in Garma, but we couldn't convince the Trans guys to haul it to Baghdad when we moved even though we had a museum willing to take it back to the States. ::)

Hey, Hajji just knew that it had a big gun... he didn't know that we didn't have any ammo for it. We had the only camp within 20 klicks of Falujiah that never got hit. ;D
