I just read a post here that made me think to myself, wow that guy is sssmaaart!
Given that IQs are a poor measure of real intelligence and not that many people know their own last test result, I'm still interested roughly what the spread is among Dynaverse.net members.
Not that we're a mensa type group or anything, I just suspect we're a pretty clever lot and want a feel for the numbers.

Hoi Bonk,
I was forbidden by my Mum to know what the results of my IQ tests were. I was tempted to go look them up once, you talked me out of it though. Thanks bud.
Take care

I once tested out pretty high, but am I using it as others think I could? HEL NO! I just enjoy being a *snicker* 'normal' type person!
-
I had something similar to an IQ test once, forget what it was called. The results were a % compared to the rest of the population.... ie: a 50% meant you were smarter than half the people and dumber than half. Higher the better.
I got a 69%, nice to know but keeps my head from getting too fat, still dumber than 31%. Plus the fact that most people I know have had a more sucessful and forfilling life than myself keeps things in perspective... heh, so what if you are above average intelligence if life is one train wreak after another, with no one to blame but yourself. Don't sound very smart to me....
-
I don't know my IQ, but the army has a score that gives you certain jobs if you rate in certain ranges. My GT score was 123, taken in 1988.
-
I've only took one test, that one when I was a kid. It hit right at 140, but you certianly can't make me believe that... not after the stupid shiznit I've done in my life.
-
Those army tests just mean you have the potential to be that smart. They never said anything about actually being that way. :)
-
Smart enough to cheat on a government IQ test....which isn't that smart.

There was a thread in Hot and Spicey with a link to a test.

Aw, Nemesis, I can't believe THAT onlne test!
-
Oh come on guys, I can't be the only guy with an IQ less than 100. Can I?
-
I scored a 149 on the IQ test that was posted. My highest area (164) was spacial skill. Maybe that's why I like to make SFC models ;D
-
I once particiapted in an IQ test. All I got was a head cold.

lucky you......... I got a Head ache ;D
-
you didn't get SORE EYES ??
-
Based on the test before, I have 135. Haven't taken a real test, though, nor did I bother to retake the old test.

Sooo unlucky, I got a head job. lol
-
took the test 3 different times and I scored between 149 and 151 all three times.
-
taken the test 2-3 times with a few years in between, 146.
and what do you have against mensa :p
-
Aw, Nemesis, I can't believe THAT onlne test!
Scored that badly did you?
I can't vouch for the accuracy of the test as it is the only IQ test I have ever seen my results for. Several others in the original thread did say that it matched their scores fairly well from other more comprehensive tests.

Funny how 42% scored 131-140 when the national table is thus:
Intelligence Interval Cognitive Designation
40 - 55 Severely challenged (Less than 1% of test takers)
55 - 70 Challenged (2.3% of test takers)
70 - 85 Below average
85 - 115 Average (68% of test takers)
115 - 130 Above average
130 - 145 Gifted (2.3% of test takers)
145 - 160 Genius (Less than 1% of test takers)
160+ Extraordinary genius

I don't think it's that odd.
1. I don't think that this test is very precise. It's only 38 questions. It may be accurate in that you will probably receive a score that is within 20 points of your actual IQ, but that means that if you have an IQ of 120, you could score anywhere between 100 and 140. Also, I think you would be more likely to score higher than your actual IQ than lower on this test.
2. I would like to think that this community is made up of relatively intelligent people. I find it hard to believe that all of the people as a whole who took the test and posted here accurately represent the intellectual distribution of society in general.

You don't read hot and spicy section, do you? That would alter your perceptions... ;D

Mawahahahaha...I'm sure I drag down the mean average by at least 20 points, but even as the dim bulb I am I know that we as a group are no smarter than the average bear.
And I love it here with all these NERDS.
-
It's also something to note that you have the option of paying for
your results.
I assume fewer people pay to get a sheet saying they have average intelligence then
saying they're a genius.

You're right. I haven't looked into Hot and Spicy yet. I think I'll check it out. I've noticed that some incredibly intelligent people have some really screwed-up ideas about the world. It seems to me that, generally speaking, the closer to average you are, the more in-touch you are with reality, and the more in-touch you are with reality, the better-off you are.

Bah! Reality is for poor people who can't afford mind altering drugs.

I feel a real test of genius is in the application of your talents...
i.e.
you can make millions on the stock market, sizing up hundreds of companies and everything else..but can't play 3 chords on a guitar (just pokin' fun at ya Jack)...
but then, you can write hundreds of beautiful musical pieces, but can't manage your money (W.A. Mozart)...
just some food for thought
Mike

Depends on how you gauge success. Often genius isn't recognized until after the death of the genius.
