Looks good, Ratboy. I havre to admit to not reading much of your other stuff as it is extremely involved and you are quite prolific (i.e. it'd take ages to read it all, and I'm still trying to kick myself into high writing gear for my own stories), but if I get in at the ground floor on this one I'll be sure to keep tuning in.
Looking forward to it, only 5 days to go!
PS. Yes, I know... normally that i.e. would be a good thing. I will get round to reading the rest of your stuff for sure. I already ref. your Timeline for stuff I have no data on, so don't think all your hard work is for nought!

Ratboy, scratch most of the previous comment. I'm off to read 'TIme and Again'. Not much happening here of late (sorry Andy, but I've read yours already :-), and I need more than just Rommie and The Guv' to sustain me.)

Word of warning: Yorktown will totally be disconnected from everything else I have written. It's set in the canon Trek universe and the quasi-canon Trek novel universe; no SFB/SFC, no Elite Force, and no Bridge Commander.

Having just finished reading 'Time and Again', jumping straight into 'Yorktown' was a bit jarring. I knew all these names from a different ship, with different ranks and histories, and going straight into your new story required a mental realignment.
Whats more, I'm caught up on 'Yorktown' now and have started to read 'The War to End All Wars', so I have no doubt I'll be confused all over again! *grin*
Anyway, I just wanted to let you know I really enjoyed everything I've read so far on all your stories. You create such depth and intertwined storylines that its almost (early) Clancy-esque (since I didn't like end of 'The Bear and the Dragon', too easy for the Yanks to nail an entire Chinese Catagory-A Army unit).
Just a litte thing for 'Yorktown', though. I really don't think getting a Galaxy or Nebula posting would be that much more prestigious than a Sovereign, if at all. I do see the point you're making that the others are far more exploratory-oriented instead of general purpose troubleshooting posts and the once-again-peaceful UFP Starfleet is more into that, but I don't see a Sovereign as being less prestigious as a result, or really, less desirable.
Again, I like the peacenik sister being an arse. People who aren't actually there at the sharp end (me being one of them) and are convinced they're right because, well, it's their opinion (and I'm not one of those) make wonderful experts. At least I entertain the possibility that the warhawks have a point and that some people really do just want to kill/conquer you.
Anyway, good stories. Keep it up. Just one more question: Why are you posting on three different boards? I know you quit storying on Taldren/Dyna for your own reasons, but why have 'Yorktown' on a third board instead of your own SFC one with the rest of your stories? It gets kinda annoying having to track down all your uncollected works.

I felt that I could get a bit more notice if I moved over to the Trek BBS. Plus I wanted to dabble in writing outside of the SFC universe, both the one I created with my various timelines and the like and the one created by the game series; starting over and setting it in the Trek canon and Trek novel quasi-canon seemed to be the best way to go.

It's more in the eyes of the officers in Starfleet (at least the ones that chose to remain instead of retiring) rather than anything quantifiable figure like prestige in SFC, especially when it comes to Hawthorne. Also, a lot of the role of the Sovereign, including its designation as a "heavy cruiser" and its intention to be the replacement of the Excelsior, that I used in the story comes from Internet postings from Rick Sternbach, Trek's longtime illustrator, tech manual author, and the man that turned the concept sketches of the Enterprise-E into the blueprints that ILM used to build the first model. Figured that he'd be the one to follow, since he practically invented TNG-era tech.

Certainly being a "peacenik" during the Dominion War would be a tad bit more complicated than it would be today. But, that said, it was rather easy to find instances where someone of that political persuasion might object, such as the decision to strike first and the decision to turn down the Dominion's peace offer in "Statistical Probabilities" (I speculated that the Federation might not want to advertise exactly why they did that).
Thanks for the kind words, Jaeih.

Hope to see more of this, RB!

It's finished, folks.

It's finished, folks.
RB, you rock! When I see the Sovereign-class Yorktown on a bookshelf in Barnes & Noble I'm buying it!
Yes, you rock *that* much!!
-
When I finish writing 'Kestrel', I'll have enough time to finish reading your excellent series. All of them.
Keep putting that stuff out, RB, and we'll keep reading it.

The next story, "The Road to Hell" will begin on December 12th, same schedule and all.
-
By the by, it's up now. Follow the link in the sig.

Excellent. My New Year's Resolution is to read all of your stories by June. :-)

Hopefully you're all caught up, because the next story, "Ghosts," starts going up on April 11th.
