GMail Drive is a Shell Namespace Extension that creates a virtual filesystem around your Google GMail account, allowing you to use GMail as a storage medium. GMail Drive creates a virtual filesystem on top of your Google GMail account and enables you to save and retrieve files stored on your GMail account directly from inside Windows Explorer. GMail Drive literally adds a new drive to your...

I've seen something like this about three or four months ago, but never tried it out.  I always wondered if you can use this setup to Email the files that are stored to another person.  That would make it easy to transfer a large file, like a hard to find game patch to another person.

Sounds cool!

Does Gmail allow attachments and do they restrain themselves from applying an unrequested virus scan?

Is it open to the public yet?

I believe you can have up to a 10mb attachment.

Not yetbut everyone here who has an account as 50 invites to give away. Want one?

10 MB - not too shabby!

Thanks, but the whole invite system strikes me as wrong(?), underhanded(?), sneaky(?) ... uh, I just don't like it... wtf are they up to?

I'll wait till its public. That way I won't get used to services that might suddenly get cut back. I'm still using lycos even though hotmail had given me a 250MB mailbox - after they did everything came up as a virus, and would be refused as attachments (though cleean as a whistle..). Anyhoo, I'm still pissed at hotmail and have abandoned the account when they failed to acknowledge the problem. Lycos is the most reliable public free email that I have found.

10Mb is pretty good but not big enough for most game patches, so unless there is a way to transfer files directly this won't do what I was hoping for.  I guess I'll stick with VPN's for now.  Too bad this would have been more secure.
