I just recieved a new computer, a non mac: a Dell Inspiron 9300, 17" widescreen laptop, 1.6 GHz Pentium M, 64 meg ATI vid card, 60 gig HD (51.9 usable), Office Pro 2003, Quickbooks installed for school.
All I can say about it is...it's big...it's very big...
I voiced my opinion that I strongly preferred an Apple laptop, but I wasn't paying for the laptop, and they said no. Oh well, it's still big...
besides, who would look a gift horse in the mouth? right? I mean, a free $2500 computer with accessories is still a free $2500 computer with accessories, even if it isn't exactly what I wanted. Besides, I can install SFC in all it's varieties on this little puppy, and play it to my heart's content wherever I like. I'm not extatic like I would be if I got myself a brand new powerbook, but hey, I'm still excited. After all, it's....big.
Gonna have to get used to being vulnerable on the web again with virii, malware, spyware, etc etc, but man it's gonna be cool to play SFC in 1440x900. Quickbooks will come in handy, and the extra screen real estate will be nice for spreadsheets and databases.
Pics soon to come.

 You kill me Toasty0...
Quickbooks = bad... (includes spyware last I read of it).
Why would you want Quickbooks when you can have Excel? Same reason people use Peoplesoft or SAP instead of Access or MySQL I guess? ::)

Because I'm going into accounting, and quickbooks is very popular in accounting circles.

oops, sorry toasty, I forgot to reply to this. I got antivirus for ayear that came with the dell. I'd add this, but it's got so much crap already loaded that I'm not sure I wan tot add anything else. It's just strange for me to go to a system that has no need for any virus protection at all to a system that can become infected even with the virus protection software.

Got a taste of Norton did ya? ::)
Hopefully Steve Jobs won't turn to "anti"-virus software to get back at Microsoft like Peter Norton has... I imagine it would be even better at crippling windows installations.
(sorry to be so cynical, but that is the way of business...)
