Title: Editing the size of ships
Post by: AngryAndorian on September 09, 2005, 07:56:05 pm
I recently installed the Generations at War mod I loved that it had some of Lord Schtupps TOS models. Mr Tricorder converted some more ships of his for sfc3 and I added them to the game. However I find they are a wee bit bigger than the TOS ships already in the mod. Is there a way of making them smaller like possibly editing ther specs?

You can edit how big the game renders the model in a file called model.siz in the models folder.

Yeah I just wonader about model.siz This file changes the size of redered model in the game? So is the rendered models size changable via game or it's better to use Max to rescale all the ships?

last i knew the model.siz thing was done as a mp balance, if you want your ships the right scale you will have to edit in a 3d program

The only way I've ever resized ships was with a 3D modeling program, either max or milkshape.  When I converted those TOS ships, I had not yet realized that there was a scale difference between SFC2 and SFC3.  In fact, most of my conversions haven't been rescaled.

The right scale that SFC3 uses is the same as SFC2 - 1/20th.

I've noticed that SFC3 ships tend to be larger than SFC2 ships.  However, many people make their own ships to different scales and the stock ships are not a very good guide since they all aren't to scale with each other.

A long time ago in a forum far far away...

P81, Cleeve, Atra, Ghost and many others agreed on a scale and listed it as well as posting the grid files so you could scale things to it. Unfortuantly I don't have that file anymore but the question goes out as does anyone still have it or a refernece to the scale they decided. Since most of there models are used in the mods it would be better to scale to them.

Seeing I was one of the dudes responsible for scaling the ships for G@W, if you can point me to where you downloaded Mr Tricorders ships and send me a list via PM of the ones needed... I can probably whip you up an early Christams present.  ;)

They're at sfc3flies.  This link should bring you to the page where they are listed.  http://starfleetcommand3.filefront.com/files/Starfleet_Command_III/Ships/Federation/;849?start=150&sort=name&name_direction=asc&limit=25&descriptions_in=0&summary_in=0&show_screenshot_in=0#files
They're the ones that start with TOS.

I didn't resize them when I converted them, so they should be the same size as Lord Schtupp's original versions of these ships.
