Title: My Titan, very early on
Post by: Captain Pierce on October 09, 2005, 11:24:04 am
All right, seeing as the winner of the Titan contest (http://www.simonsays.com/content/feature.cfm?sid=44&feature_id=4347) has been revealed, I'm going to go ahead and show the design I had that never got finished and entered into the contest.

(http://img141.imageshack.us/img141/2025/titanrender26mw.th.jpg) (http://img141.imageshack.us/my.php?image=titanrender26mw.jpg) (http://img141.imageshack.us/img141/5999/titanrender33fn.th.jpg) (http://img141.imageshack.us/my.php?image=titanrender33fn.jpg)

Here it is in scale (length was determined by the contest specifications at 450 meters) with the Galaxy and Sovereign:

(http://img141.imageshack.us/img141/1892/titanrender10bl.th.jpg) (http://img141.imageshack.us/my.php?image=titanrender10bl.jpg)

And here's a couple of test renders I did with a Danube runabout and Type 11 shuttle:

(http://img141.imageshack.us/img141/2161/titanwithdanube3fk.th.jpg) (http://img141.imageshack.us/my.php?image=titanwithdanube3fk.jpg) (http://img141.imageshack.us/img141/5254/titanwithtype117hq.th.jpg) (http://img141.imageshack.us/my.php?image=titanwithtype117hq.jpg)

The Titan is mentioned as carrying eight Type 11's in the first novel, and also as at one point having a Danube parked in its "main" shuttlebay (which suggests an "auxiliary" one somewhere, despite the fact that all of the Type 11's were in the "main" ::) ), so I wanted to see how feasible that was with this design.

(Credits: Galaxy, Sovereign and Danbue by Trekmods team; Type 11 from Elite Force 2, ported to SFC by DarkDrone; Titan design by me, model by CommanderJones.)

We never did get around to adding the bridge module or figuring out where some locations mentioned in the novel (like the "forward observation lounge"--or lounges, since there almost have to be two given an inconsistency in the novels ::)--and the combined mess hall, rec room, and "Ten-Forward"-style lounge), or for that matter the weapons, are.

Opinions?

Kinda dark  hard to see need to lighten up your backgroud a little bit.

Looks like a New Orleans-class minus a couple of details and the addition of perhaps a Sovereign-esque detail or two (the nacelles for example).  Still appealing though, perhaps even more-so than the winner's entry, but that's just me.  Nice job.

Heh, hadn't even noticed the New Orleans similarities, which is odd since I like the NO...  :D  guess that's just the subconscious plagiarist in me at work...  ;)

the NO certainly wasn't a bad ship. in BC it's one of the easiest to blast the nacelles off of though ;D
