That looks like a bloody good idea...  Should be able to cover quite a lot of ground pretty cheaply...

yup. and if you had the funds you could send a number of them have them orbit prior to deploying and have redundancy and have any survivors follow each other sequentially to cover even more ground or verify or re observe something the first finds.

Oh yeah, I'd love to see the footage from a few of those bad boys flying over Mars with video cameras attached to them...  That would be something...  One thing I've still never seen yet, if there are any, is motion pictures made on location on Mars...  The footage of the moon landings was just an awesome sight...  If they can do bus trips to the moon by the time I'm an old man, I'd gladly risk the old ticker giving out to have a walk up there...

I think the problem with sending back video is bandwidth...  still photos are easier to send...

This probe has to send back data as it is acquired because it's mission duration is only about 90 minutes. I believe it is a glider. it could land but on what? there are no tarmacs on mars. i think this probes data transmission rate is large enough it can send back enough frames per second to make a movie out of it.

I hope so...  I was hoping for some video footage from the two rovers...
